Answers:
1. Sunset across the Nile from the terrace of a good hotel in Luxor
2. The lake district, Ullswater IIRC
3. Nice harbour (that's Nice the place, not nice as in "Have a nice day!"

::) It is not a statue, it is a piece of Floral Art (its just a big hanging basket really), they do a different themed display every year, I did not get photos of the bi-planes but they were spectacular..

However, it is the freeeeeeee hosting that this very site offers!
If you click the ?Add image to post? link thoughtfully provided by the management it allows you to upload any picture from your PC straight into the post.
I?ve just uploaded original images from my pictures folder ? it saves me loading them into some ?photo package and re-sizing them. You?ll notice that most are not from my new Sony Alpha but from its predecessor, the DSC-F717 which had a 5Mp sensor.
Glad you like them.

The National Building Research People have had the use of one of the Hangers for some years now. The other was occupied for a time by Airship Industries.

With the possible exception of me and our Bouncer, that'll go down a treat for these bloody car hating tree 'ugger buggers. ::)

Can I ask why the hangers are umm so important? Why are we worried about them being at risk? redface:

Leaving aside the obvious crude comments concerning "Hangers"
The Hangers at Cardington are unique, historic, listed buildings. If you have not actually seen the sheer size of them and appreciated their construction, which was carried out at a time when no such buildings had ever been erected, it is hard to convey the achievement. Their importance in the development of Airship Technology from the early days is immense and their contribution to the war effort (think barrage balloons etc) is of great historic importance.
The fact that I, as a callow youth, was transported to Cardington to undergo recruitment interviews, psychological suitability and medical tests prior to my application to join the RAF being accepted is immaterial but when I arrived there and was shown round the Hangers I can honestly say that any doubts I had harboured were instantly dispersed.
You really do need to see them up close to appreciate the sheer enormity of them.
One thing that you have to remember is that the R101 which was developed there could and did "fly" inside one of those hangers. There are no edges to snag the skin of an airship. Can you imagine just how big and apparently "unsupported" that makes them.
Sorry to be a bore on this but thousands of RAF personnel passed through the gates at Cardington as it was also the main southern recruitment centre. But enough. If you can stand it read through the stats and you will see the size and uniqueness for yourself. Just two to show what I mean .. Nelson's Column could be stood upright in the Hanger with room to spare ~ they are 8 storeys high. HMS Ark Royal would have fitted inside the hanger, with room to spare. That is BIG.

No, but plenty of all over blurred ones (which I won't post up) I have managed to blur background a few times but I had borrowed a mates lens and had it on Auto most of the time. This is the lens I borrowed

Bastardos!
Can you go inside them or even get close to them or is it private land?
Curiously we moved from quite near there to come to North Wales.
Over the years since I first saw them (January 1963) I have been back many times either through work or because we bought a house in Stondon (just north of Hitchen) when we moved out of town.
I haven't been in them for some years now but from the road you get a good view. If you are in that area they are still worth a look. They often have a balloon tethered outside in decent weather (but only small ones these days. There was talk of a company trying to "perfect" the airship by using up to date technology a few years ago but I don't think it got much past the talking stage.
From Bedford take the Stotfold Road and that will take you right past them .... Same road the RAF Chicksands (not worth looking at since they removed the "Elephant Cages" but they still train spooks there so you won't get in) used to be accessed from and that will eventually bring you to RAF Henlow (bugger all there to look at either). Sorry can't remember all the road numbers but it is only 15 minutes (on a bad traffic day) from Bedford centre or come off the A1M at junction 10 and follow the signs for Stotfold and then Bedford and you should see it.

I assumed that was the purpose of the device encircling the top, or is it being circumcised?
We all know the one about Magellan, who circumcised the globe with his 40 foot clipper.
Maybe that is where it went afterwards?

Last time I was there, The Good Year dirigible was in residence and it was a heavily restricted area. Half of it is a Government advanced driver training establishment.
Still, they're not too far from the road

I had one of them! Not in that livery mind, but a dark green 2.5PI with overdrive. Belting car. Smooth as a baby's bum it was, though to be fair, it could usefully have used power steering - it was as good as a bullworker for building up the biceps!
And they were not as thirsty as they were reputed to be - if you understood the PI bit. It was a bit old fashioned and the fuel was metered based on manifold vacuum (who remembers the vacuum gauges sold by Halfords that everyone fitted back then?). Because of this, if the engine was off tune, this caused the manifold vacuum to drop which, in turn, caused a richer mixture, which, caused the manifold vacuum to drop which . . . You get the picture?
So, anything off in the tuning department - dodgy ignition timing, bad valve clearances, or any other tuning issue would result in massive increases in fuel consumption.
Add to this the fact that the springs in the metering unit got 'tired' and you ended up with 15 m.p.g.
However, if you were on top of tuning, and intelligently 'tweaked' the injection unit everything was good - I used to regularly get 29 or 30 out of mine. And I didn't pussy foot about in it neither!
Also had a couple of Heralds and a belting Vitesse convertible - a later one with proper suspension at the back. Soft top it was - great for pissing off MGB drivers ;)

Plod Triumph 2500 PI A regular sight on the M6 IIRC?
Was it the TR6 engine?
A;so, a guy up the road from here has a Triumph Herald 13/60 soft top...

A;so, a guy up the road from here has a Triumph Herald 13/60 soft top...
The TR6 did indeed use the PI engine - another belting car! And one of my Heralds was a 13/60 - the other prior one was a 12/50.
Makes interesting comparisons with modern cars - the 13/60 was a 1296 (1300) cc engine developing 60 bhp. My current car, a Clio (don't snigger at the back!) has a 1400cc engine and produces just shy of 100 bhp - so, 100 more cc and 40 more bhp. And it does well over 40 to the gallon (remember those?) on a run while the Herald struggled to produce better than 30 to the gallon.
As and aside, the Herald was the last mass produced car to have a chassis which leads to an interesting anecdote:
A friend liked mine so much, he went out and bought one. He moaned constantly about poor performance and bad consumption. Turned out that, because the chassis used to rust and comprised box girders, to get it through an MOT once, a previous owner had filled the two outrigger beams with concrete! The Herald was a weighty car at the best of times, but with all that extra concrete it really dented the performance. He was not a happy bunny when he found out - it cost him a fortune to have the outriggers replaced!

So, to answer your question, yes. I owned one. Cracking car except for the worn out diff! Mine was yellow - a kind of canary, not the pale colour more often seen which IIRC Triumph saw fit to call 'Jonquil'.

We had a lot of sunset pictures on here at one time. This is one I took a few weeks ago but have only just retrieved from the camera (following a number of PC problems you will recall) ... Anyway I took the picture from the back of Snoopy Towers looking out, over the roof tops further down the mountain, toward the Irish Sea. I did use the zoom hence the thick telephone cable across the picture and the apparent closeness of the chimney pots.
Times like this that I know why I live here.

One of the many annoyances I find with PC's (I'm a fully fledged technophobe) is scrolling up and down and across like I've just had to do when opening my photos above. Is there a suitable file/pixel size I can go up to to prevent me and others having to scroll?

Lovely pictures… does the cat sleep in the house or do you make it stay outside?
There is no definitive picture size as it depends on other people’s screen resolution as to what will fit. As a general rule I downsize to 600 pixels wide which fits on just about everything, is quite small to download and gives a good image.

I've found some photos eeek:
This is Fujiyama 1946. If I recall correctly Mr P (Snr.) flew a plane, probably a Sunderland, up to Japan from HK or Singapore after the cessation of hostilities and had a cameraman on board. No idea what the mission was but I remember him showing me these prints (Crown Copyright printed on the back) and not saying much about them. The others are of Hiroshima and Tokyo from the air... obviously....
I'll scan the others in due course ... sad24:
(Right click and open the image in a new window for a bigger view. I think the emulsion is beginning to go ... it's been 65 years after all)

There's a whole thread on it (http://www.virtual-pub.com/SMF/index.php?topic=11263.0)
Costs £2 and loads on an iPhone (and Android IIRC). Makes VPing on the move a doddle and adding pictures from the less dim phone ever doddleler.
Only drawback I've found so far is I use it when Mrs K is driving and all that looking down makes me car sick sick2:. Oh and the clever emoticons don't all work - yet
Mobile phone cameras are just so damn good now. I never ever take photocopies of important documents any more, just photograph them.

Thank JOM I have now got a fair number of them here. I am trying to label the older ones because once my mother pop her clogs there will be no one to help me to identify the people in the pictures and the date (give or take) that they were taken.

Everybody: Please label your photographs. Write on the back, in pencil, who the picture is of, where it was taken and when it was taken. Family researchers like me are forever struggling with old photos that are now meaningless because nobody bothered to do this.
As for charity shops, I am halfway convinced that the only reason they exist is to keep the name of the charity on view so that people will leave them money in their wills. About the only things my local charity shop will take are clothes and books ~ oh and any amount of old china, which they keep in a back room until the local "dealers" have had their pick of it.
He was a wise old dog

...the image stabilisation is really impressive tho...
It also does some clever thing where it takes multiple shots and combines them - I'll see if I can work that out later....

Seems mine has HDR too eeek: but the reviews say you have to use a tripod for it to really work
(did I mention I don't really do it justice? redface:)
IMHO nothing does image stitching to panoramics like an iPhone. But you can get some odd effects

HDR was shite too - it limits the zoom range to 24x...

The Vulcan… If Carlsberg did Saturday afternoons
For the last four weeks I’ve been trying to get photos of this before she goes into retirement; and due to cancellations, bad weather and route changes I’ve not been able to get near her. Today’s published route took her past Popham on three occasions as she headed to and from the Goodwood Festival and Old Sarum airshows. I got her on pass one, and on pass two they radio’ed they’d got a fuel leak and were aborting the flight. So lucky me got to see her twice and the poor buggers at the shows never got to see her at all. I am one happy fella that at last I got my photos

Batttle of Britain Day [10 sections of 4 aircraft]
When- Tuesday, 15 Sep 2015
Where - Goodwood Aerodrome (map)
Description
On 15th September 2015, the 75th anniversary of victory in Battle of Britain, an estimated 40 Spitfires and Hurricanes and Blenheims cloud9: from across the UK, USA and Europe will come to Goodwood Aerodrome, West Sussex, to take part in an historic flypast over the South of England. The event brings together in one place more Battle of Britain aircraft than at any time since World War Two.
Aircraft will take off as wings in groups of roughly four. They will circle through the overhead of Goodwood Aerodrome before setting course to Selsey Bill. From Selsey Bill the different wings will set course on predetermined routes spreading out to cover the the South of the England and ending up at Battle of Britain airfields such as Biggin Hill, Duxford, Northweald, and Northolt, with some returning to Goodwood.
Channel 4 will be capturing this one off event with two documentaries presented by Dermot O’Leary featuring behind the scenes access to the build-up and exclusive aerial coverage of this unique spectacle.
Link to Routes: http://www.battleofbritainday.co.uk/# (http://www.battleofbritainday.co.uk/#)!routes/c1px (May be of interest to Marley and Steve)
The order of the routes reflects the order that the sections will take off in, so WHITE SECTION will be first, and BLACK SECTION will be last. The first section is due to roll at 12:00 local time...
Selsey is looking good for me

It was, but I was glad of it. It took me 2.5hr's to go 2 miles as I approached Chichester, delays from other directions were even longer. Had it gone on time I'd have missed it. As it was, I parked up at Sidlesham harbour and although not as close as I would like, I'm hoping the photos aren't too bad. Even if they are poor, the sights and sounds of the 36 (I believe) that took place will stay with me forever cloud9:

I went to Beach Head which was a great view but horrendously windy ( scared2: it's a long drop) and absurdly swarming with Germans who hadn't got a clue why so many Brits were there looking at the Sky. Saw three groups all fighters, no Blenheims cry: and an all round good show by the flyers.
I'm nowhere near what JOM can do but anyway can you spot your Hurricanes from your Spits? (the old feller standing next to me could immediately)

...taking pictures of an unlit object 240,000miles away in the pitch black is somewhat more complicated... noooo:

Farnborough in those days was brilliant, used to go every time to have meetings with (=pour drink down) customers. New aircraft every time and pilots really out to show them off to get sales to keep programmes alive. 1984 and the doomed Tigershark was awesome. 2 months later the pilot killed himself doing the same routine cry:
