Comedy side, it sounds like a scene from a sitcom. A bin blows out to sea, an 81 year old goes out in his dinghy to get it and ends up having ot be rescued, then the rescuers return to get the bin
On the serious side, 81 years old eeek: , (if I'm still here at that age and got all my marbles I'd like to think I'd want to go out in a dinghy), no lifejacket, no waterproofs, suffers mild hypothermia, all this with strong winds and high tides, and volunteers have to go out in those conditions to rescue him.

No. It would be a condition that you had actually lost your marbles to perform an act of such hilarious buffoonery, dopey old goat.
Got to luv him though ey? lol:

Sounds like lost episode from "Last of the Summer Wine"

He gets my vote. happy088 Not sure what for but he gets it anyway.
-
Oh, he gets my vote too, but if it was a 17 year old "yoof" I have to admit I wouldn't have seen the comedic side of it. So at what age would comedy cut in... buggered if I know
-
The age at which such matters become comedic is the same age at which you start to think that what he did was perfectly reasonable.
Fortunately I am still able to smile with you at his antics and to be grateful that he was rescued ......... well almost as I am also saying thank the Lord we still have people like that who try to do what they think is right to help a neighbour. Misguided but TBH heroic.
I may be on the verge of "That age" redface:

Fanks but don't come too close or you'll get it too.
Bloody THW has only been back at school for 4 days and already she is spreading colds around the family.
-
The Welsh coastline was hit by some of the highest tides of the year on Friday."
Hit?
As tides are predictable, it is difficult to understand why the BBC wishes to make it seem like a sudden catastrophe, like a storm. ::)
-
Erosion is the problem.
And the fact that some of the sea defences are suffering from severe underfunding
