*Windows Media Store Update Manager has Stopped Working
*Windows can check online for a solution to the problem
*Check online for a solution (recommended)
* Close
At least four times a day for the past two weeks.
So I click on "Check on line" and the "window" goes away.
I give up saying check online and click on Close and the window goes away.

Hotfix or Service Pack update needed

You might as well have typed that in Greek noooo:
I have updates set to automatic anyway.
-
Check MS site for hotfix - these are not always automatic.

Well THAT didn't work cussing:
Went to M/S Site and installed EVERY download, patch etc available (there were 4 "optionals" that I had not previously installed and only 4). The problem persists.

Have you googled it?
Possible solution:
Disable Windows Media Center Store Update Manager (http://www.dotnetgoodies.com/article/Microsoft_Vista/48/Windows_Media_Center_Store_Update_Manager_has_Stopped_Working_and_was_Closed.aspx)

Thanks Uncle ~ That worked up to 6 when I had to right click and then select "disable". The right click produces nothing, zilch, zippo, f***all.
I shall give up and content myself with echoing Nick's sentiments and kicking the PC tower.
Controlling my temper I have been through the procedure again and this time have disabled the thing. cloud9:
