Title: Its been a while since my science GCSE

But surely if this sun is 640 light years away then it is going to take 640 years for the light of the supernove to reach us once the event takes place?  rubschin:

Presumably it went bang somewhere between 639 years ago and a million years in the future.

Uncle Mort will know, unless he has also gone bang...
