I had just got to sleep last night finally when The Brat came in offering her netbook to me and telling me I needed to fix it ::)
It would appear she has got some kind of scareware on it but I can't seem to open anything to delete it. It is saying it has found a threat and takes you to a link to buy software to remove etc ::)
Any advice on how to get rid would be appreciated - in simple, non tech, girly terminology.
Thanks

You could download AVG free (http://free.avg.com/ww-en/homepage) and have a go with that...
Did it not have any anti-virus software on it...? rubschin:

There's lots of different types. These boys (http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?s=c939843f2f0f7eaab155e529eecb3445&showforum=39) are good. My daughter had a scareware virus on the laptop once. I downloaded their free anti-malware on another computer ~ copied to a memory stick which I plugged in to her laptop and ran the program from there. It guides you through the process and worked perfectly.

According to "my man", when I took one of the boys laptops in with a similar problem, many of these irremovable Scareware alerts are just a con to get you to buy their anti spyware ... which usually doesn't work. Top techies can usually get rid of them for you.
Moral ~ don't click on them in the first place or they are in like Flynn.

Are you sure she was not just spying on you? whistle:

I got my revenge by getting her up for school and then going back to bed this morning lol:
You have to get your kicks where you can ;)

It sounds like you have a problem, in that something has been installed and now has control of the machine. Probably won't do any damage initially but will eventually by inviting lotsa nasties in. Messages will apear requesting money for evil stuff to be fixed - if you cough up, it won't get fiexed, messages will just go away and nasties will still be invited in.
See if you can download a copy of Malwarebytes - it usually fixes this, but not always.
Sorted out several of these recently.
If you meed any more info etc, PM me with details of nasty.
I posted without looking at Uncle's suggestion redface:
