Title: London
Post by: Tipsy Gipsy on April 17, 2011, 08:38:35 AM
My youngest and me will be travelling around London next weekend.  What is the best value way to get about and if I want to take a black cab should I book ahead or order at the hotel.

Any suggestions  and dont say use the horse!

Are you staying in centralish London. In which case I wouldn't worry about ordering a cab.

Cheapest way to get around is to buy a travelcard  ( there is off peak and peak time variations depending on times you wish to travel) .

Don't pay for  single journeys on the tube as  they are a ridiculous price £4  eeek:

Check what lines are open that weekend though if you are needing to go to certain places - weekend engineering works are a constant source of pleasure  evil:

My son is a White Hart Lane fan.    He doesnt take after my side of the family... sport wise.  I was thinking of getting a black cab from the hotel in Kensington to and from the match.  Mainly cos I am a coward I would happily spend the £100 quoted to get there and back and reduce the event to the minimum time.  I have never been to a football match and am not looking forward to it.  For the rest of the weekend I am happy to use public transport.

Thanks Miss D and Pastis for the excellent advice.

I have given the youngest an overview of the plans for the weekend, where, how long, named the hotel (quickly checked by him as he has had to endure some dodgy places over the years and enquiries about the cost) and asked if his Team Shirt is clean and admitted that yes he is going on Saturday.  Big big smile.... 'Luke (a best mate) will be there... in the away stand.  And almost before he took a second breath 'thank you'.

I think all thoughts of the £5 book he asked me to get him yesterday have gone out of the window.     cloud9: cloud9: cloud9:

The tickets to the match have arrived together with 2 gift cards.  Now as its a sports break you would expect transport from the hotel, to and from the event, or wouldn't you?  rubschin:
