Little sis's dispute with BT drags on
Quote
FOR THE PERSONAL ATTENTION OF
Mr Warren Buckley
Managing Director
Customer Service
Correspondence Centre
Durham
DH98 1BJ
Dear Mr Buckley
I was interested to read the letter that came through my door yesterday, from you. It said that as I had been with you for a while you wanted to check that I am getting the most out of your service, and to bring me good news. Imagine my excitement at that news Mr Buckley! Actual good news from BT!
Because you see, I have had nothing but bad news, frustration and despair since I signed up with you in July 2010. I note from your letter that you boast the ‘UKs most reliable wireless broadband connection’. How strange then, that I have had the most unreliable broadband that I have ever had, losing the connection for several days every month until recently. I notice you also promote one bill every month. When I requested one bill for my phone and broadband in August 2010 it opened such a can of worms that I am still waiting for one bill that is easy to understand and doesn’t stretch to nine incomprehensible pages!
I started to write to your department with my list of complaints as long ago as last November.. I am still awaiting a satisfactory outcome. The ombudsman is also, apparently, being ignored by your colleagues and so this matter drags on and on and I have yet to pay a bill, because I’m still waiting for a correct one.
Forgive my hollow laughter at the heading of your letter ‘Get more from BT’. I just want to get what I asked for when I signed the contract last July. Nothing more. Is that too much to ask?
Thankyou for letting me share. I know I won’t get a reply from you, because I’m only a customer after all, with two accounts with you and as such I realise how insignificant I am.
Yours sincerely

The thing that brightened my Tuesday... As a nipper about 40 years ago I remember seeing a programme that included a shot of a steam train crossing the Ribbleshead viaduct on the Carlisle to Settle railway. That image was stored somewhere in the back of my mind and ocasionally it would come back and remind me it was "one to tick off the list". On Tuesday I got to see it cloud9: cloud9: cloud9:
It was well worth the wait, what the picture doesn't show is that two minutes before, there was torrential rain, and that I was stood outside leaning into the car to stop myself from being blown over by the gales that were brought to me courtesy of the tail end of Hurricane Katia
Nice shots but no steam engine .... most disappointing
Strangely enough, exactly my thoughts too Snoopy. Maybe next time, and there will be a next time. I'd never ventured up into that part of the world before, but I definitely will be doing so again

Just finished watching the rugby so put it back on "Vintage TV" , playing music and videos from the 1940's onwards. They're currently covering an era with music from Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong etc. Looked up when they were playing Doris Day's "Secret Love", it was accompanied by clips of Tiger Woods, Bill Clinton, Wayne Rooney, John Terry, Monica Lewinsky, Gordon Ramsey, John MAjor and Edwina Curry, Prince Charles etc lol:

When my mum died and we cleared her house I took a few mementos ...all silly stuff before I get accussed of robbing and stealing evil: The one thing I did ask for was a big crystal and glass mirror that she bought when I was with her. In her words she was "going all Hollywood" . My brother had been storing it as his house but came up yesterday and put it up for me in my house. He also bought me a beautiful photo of her at his wedding which he had framed.
I woke up this morning and on my way out looked in the mirror. Then told me mum I was off out to Hollywood and see ya later.
I left the house with a hooge smile .

He also bought me a beautiful photo of her at his wedding which he had framed.
I woke up this morning and on my way out looked in the mirror. Then told me mum I was off out to Hollywood and see ya later.
I left the house with a hooge smile .
How lovely Miss D. ;D A great way to start the day whatever the weather, I hope that the smile stays with you until you say 'hi' to her on your return.
Thank you for your congratulations on my news. I have never had any doubts about the rightness of this young man for my daughters contentment, nor my daughters rightness for the contentment of the young man in question. When I you them together you can almost touch 'rightness' of it. Sloppy bit is now over. razz:
Struggling with that bit tbh. rubschin:
I'll come back later to comment when I'e 'ad a lie down and a ponder.
As am I Growler. What it should have said is....When you see them together you can almost touch the 'rightness' of it.

Young Growler cub has brightened up my day this last few days. He's worked so hard, getting up at 05:30 to then go and drive a bus around some pretty scaryily icy roads in N.Wales until mid evening, but he's come home with a smile on his face telling us that it was a challenge he relished.
His gaffer had to give him a penny lecture yesterday morning though, just as the snow was starting, warning him that he was inexperienced and to take it easy, as if he wasn't anyway. ::)
Getting rid of that over possesive lazy hollering viperous bint has helped his attitude too. He's far more easy going this last couple of weeks. cloud9:

My grandson has Down's Syndrome he is three nearly four now. It is doubtful that he will ever live an independent life but may well outlive his parents.
His father (my son due to arrive tomorrow) lives in Scotland. Full time jobs are few on the ground and my son doesn't have one of them he works p/t for Tesco. Money is tight and my son is going to be caught out by the so called 'bedroom tax'. He will struggle to have his children to stay with him in a month or so as he will only be allowed to have one bedroom without being penalised. Another reason for Scotland to go their own way ...... tho' I'm not sure the "Bedroom Tax" will apply in Scotland anyway. Since, like Wales, they have their own system of valuation on properties you may find that this piece of Westminster arseholery doesn't get taken up North o the Border.

Had not long been back from lingering in Sheffield. Been down the garden to feed the chickens, was just washing my hands and getting ready to open the wine when there was a knock at the front door.
On answering it much to my surprise standing there and asking to use the bathroom was Nick.
One glass of wine, a wee, several stories, a large dose of laughing he has just left us, clutching a package containing a wabbit pie dish and a CD that has been sitting on my bookcase since he visited us for a weekend. cloud9:

Had not long been back from lingering in Sheffield. Been down the garden to feed the chickens, was just washing my hands and getting ready to open the wine when there was a knock at the front door.
On answering it much to my surprise standing there and asking to use the bathroom was Nick.
One glass of wine, a wee, several stories, a large dose of laughing he has just left us, clutching a package containing a wabbit pie dish and a CD that has been sitting on my bookcase since he visited us for a weekend. cloud9:

Was he freshly showered...?

I keep saying this...HE has done well for himself, using initiative and making the stirling efforts to better himself, which is a such a rarity for a lad of his age. On saying that, one of the lads he went to scoohell with is now flying for Sleazy Jet! Shocked:
Me at his age? Couldn't give a flying duck about anything or anyone, and I was a lazy sloathe, always in trubble with the rozzers and girlies parents. whistle:

I ended the day having a presentation on the mahoosive changes happening on the farm followed by a BBQ courtesy of said farmer. After 15 - 20 years of arable they're going down the "grass-fed" route, meadow grasses have already been planted over much of the 2,500 acres, and 4,500 sheep arrive in September (and one dog), and cows to follow. Photo opportunities galore cloud9:
The first 40 have arrived. Nice to hear them in the field as I sat in the garden with cider in hand this evening (NAE)

Oh noes they like me, I chicken sit for them, it will be the bats that they want to get rid of.
The poor love is a chicken novice, in the keeping way of the word, trying to explain to a sobbing woman how to shove a prolapse back into place (a hen not her nor I) was not easy nor was breaking the news that as she (the hen) was an ex-battery hen even if she succeeded it was likely to re-occur and if she wasn't around the hen would likely be eviscerated by her other hens, the sobbing grew louder I offered her a tissue and a black sack. She had to get a farmer friend in to do the deed. noooo:

On September 10, 1945, farmer Lloyd Olsen of Fruita, Colorado, United States, had his mother-in-law around for supper and was sent out to the yard by his wife to bring back a chicken. Olsen chose a five-and-a-half-month-old cockerel named Mike. The axe missed the jugular vein, leaving one ear and most of the brain stem intact.[2][3] Despite Olsen's botched handiwork, Mike was still able to balance on a perch and walk clumsily; he even attempted to preen and crow, although he could do neither. When the bird did not die, a surprised Mr. Olsen decided to continue to care permanently for Mike, feeding him a mixture of milk and water via an eyedropper; he was also fed small grains of corn. It is not recorded what was eaten for supper that night. When used to his new and unusual center of mass, Mike could easily get himself to the highest perches without falling. His crowing, though, was less impressive and consisted of a gurgling sound made in his throat, leaving him unable to crow at dawn. Mike also spent his time preening and attempting to peck for food with his neck.[2]

She had to get a farmer friend in to do the deed. noooo:
We should all have one of these to help us through the day like

What I'd quite like to know is, how, with most of it's head (and therefore its eyes) missing, how in God's name did it know where the perches were that it's supposed to have been able to jump to?
Bit of an oversight in an otherwise fascinating tale . . . .

Having kept chickens for years I think that he would prolly be able to do it. They are creatures of habit and can be quite aggressive.
If he was one of the dominant cockerels when he lost his head he would have been used to getting to the top perches.
I would love to know how the wound didn't become infected. confused:

I still don't see how (even if he were dominant) that he could see the perch to get on it without eyes!
Memory of it wouldn't help 'cos he'd have moved and wouldn't know where it was without sight!

I look forward greatly to spending a weekend away with JOM, it comes as something of a surprise but a pleasant surprise. I do need to confirm with JOM but I think that reviews will be restricted to the delights of the Pennington Flash Country Park.

noooo:
The Production Code When a series of off-screen scandals inspired an anti-Hollywood backlash in the early 1920s, the major studios joined forces and hired Republican politician Will Hays to head the new Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA), an organization formed to restore the industry's reputation by censoring film content and . This alumni of President Harding's scandal-ridden administration surprised everyone by taking his job seriously. Hays forced a number of superficial changes in the film industry, then settled into the background. When the advent of sound film -- and a series of off-screen Hollywood murders and sex-scandals -- brought a new public outcry, Hays instituted the 1930 Production Code.
Along with forbidding nudity and profanity, this code included a long list of rules that now seem laughable. A few examples --
Screen kisses had to be close-mouthed and were limited to six seconds. Whenever two characters embraced, at least one of them had to keep at least one foot on the floor. No plot would present evil "alluringly." Even if married, a man and woman could not be shown sharing the same bed. Seduction could not be the subject of comedy. No religious minister could be a comic or villainous character. Such words as "broad," "pregnant," "Lord" and "hold your hat" were prohibited. In fact, any line, costume, character or situation Hays deemed "unnecessary" could be forbidden.
Apart from playing 'air bongos' have you been out standing on any hot driveways today have your legs melted do we need to call you 'Stumpy'. So many questions. noooo:

In Connecticut, lonely widowed Professor Walter Vale has a boring life. He teaches only one class at the local college and is trying to learn how to play the piano, despite not having the necessary musical talent. Walter is assigned to attend a conference about Global Policy and Development at New York University, where he is to give a lecture about a paper on which he is co-author. When he arrives at his apartment in New York, he finds Tarek Khalil, a Syrian musician, and Zainab, a Senegalese street vendor, living there. He sympathizes with the situation of the illegal immigrants and invites the couple to stay with him. Tarek invites him to go to his gig at Jules Live Jazz. Walter is fascinated with his African drum and Tarek offers to teach Walter to play the drum. However, after an incident in the subway, Tarek is arrested by the police and sent to a detention center for illegal immigrants. Walter has just hired a lawyer to defend Tarek when, out of the blue, Tarek's mother Mouna ...

Bryan Ferry - Let's Stick Together (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9EbR0ckb40#)
I'll raise your 'Lets Stick Together' to Roxy Music - Dance away 1979 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMSeOFyskRk#)
It was about the only Bryan Ferry/ Roxy Music track I liked, I was spending a great deal of my free time at the 100 club. I thought that 'Dance Away' was just so sexy.

Me new salt barn as of yesterday cloud9:
Awesome acoustics, face to the right, speak and your words come around to your left ear about one second later. Stand on the far side approx 65m away, and those having a quiet conversation on the opposite side sound like they’re shouting. Hampshire’s own whispering gallery. A shame to use it for salt ;)

I really didn't expect that ending - made my visual aids well up and sat watching it (for the 2nd time) with my head tilted on one side
Okay so it might be an ad but still IMO it's a good reminder of how lucky 'most' of us are..........
Had some fantastic news myself yesterday that a dear girlfriend in the UK has just been given her 1 year all clear from breast cancer - still have two other good friends fighting the disease and undergoing treatment, but I won't give up on them noooo:

Too many of us are surrounded by so many affected by cancer, glad to hear your news Landlady, and fingers crossed for your other friends

Woodstock checks in:
Hope all is well with you. Term has started for me - I have more than 100 students on my programme this term which is a huge number after the teeny tiny college I was with before. The head of department resigned just after I started (not my fault, honest!) so I was immediately promoted. Boys have not started school yet, as we have had a lot of difficulty finding a decent school with places for both. However, we now have a school willing to take both of them and it rates OK with Ofsted so they will start soon. They seem pleased with it although I reckon it will be a bit of a shock to their systems as they have had only 3 weeks of school since Malcolm died. Cannot honestly say that we miss Wales at all - we've found lots of nice walks for Kai, the weather is certainly drier and the road quieter - do miss the Boss more than somewhat, I keep wanting to tell him things that strike me as funny or stupid. But hey, onward and upward as he used to say.

I think the whole town of Lytham St Anne will be out for Harold Jellicoe's funeral on Monday. My friend's Dad, the chairman of the RAF benevolent fund, is gonna sort some uniformed guys there and give him a proper send off. It's even made the local paper! I'm sorry I can't be there myself.

Even Carlsberg can't do days out like this... The sight and mainly the sound as these two (flanked by a Spitfire and Hurricane) flew over is a memory that will stay with me forever. Heading back there again today for further goosebump moments

This was taken yesterday about one mile from where I was stood. It doesn't really capture the magnitude of noise but gives an idea of the sight I enjoyed

Usually when you look a the news its full of doom and gloom such as ISIS, the economy, the election, crime etc but every once in a while comes a story that shows there are still decent people out there.
Alan Barnes was beaten up outside his home by an unknown attacker, breaking his collar bone. When the news was reported Katie Cutler, a local beautician decided set up an appeal with the aim of raising a couple of hundred pounds to help comfort him, currently the total raised is over a quarter of a million pounds.

After seeing and hearing about loads of sarcastic notes of complaint over the years it's good to see that there are people who support the paramedics when they are on a call.

Ignorant CBS journalist starts a harassment campaign against a Target employee to try and get her sacked because he can't buy an electric toothbrush for 1 cent so a kind soul decides to set up a Gofundme page so she can have a holiday.
Within 1 day of it being set up it's raised almost $30k
It's times like this you can see that there are still decent people out there, it's just that the arseholes make the most noise.

Crazy George from across the road ..put two HUGE commercial bags of cat dry food in our garden for our cats …. Thumbs:
But …….what he failed to tell me was that he got them cheap coz there are splits in the bags …I picked up the first one …and now we have a drive completely covered in half a ton of dry cat food … noooo: ;D
I expect massive cat fights all night when the local strays realise that there is “free buffet” and our cats fight them off ..
