Historically the one point that Mr Salmond and his crew are not mentioning is that the Union came about at the behest of the then independent Scottish Parliament. They were bankrupt and begged Westminster to allow them to join the existing United Kingdom. We agreed and paid their debts off for them.
The Act of Union was passed in 1707 .......Long after King James VI (of Scotland) was invited to become King James I of England was dead, buried and, but for a translation of the Bible into English done on his order and a lengthy anti smoking tract written by him, had been forgotten.

I do not believe for one minute that Mr Salmond really does want full independence which is why he is arguing that there should be a two question referendum and Cameron, who knows his history, is not willing to give him it.

If they do go independent, and I believe that the English should be allowed to vote on the matter too, it will only take a century at the most before they come back and ask for another handout to rescue them from the fact that without us they have no means of earning enough money to support themselves. Next time I sincerely hope, despite having Scottish ancestry, that they will be told to fvck off.

Indeed, wot Snoops said.

I have signed the petition.  I do so hope that they get their independence and sooner rather than later.
I have always thought that the worst thing about drowning was having to call 'help!' You must look such a fool. It's put me against drowning.

My Great Grandfather (On Mum's side) was Scots. He caught the first boat he could get on out of Invernesshire at age of 12 and never went back.
