As part of my family are French I think I am already comfortable with the culture. Britain has become so rude and ignores old fashioned courtesy which I think shocks most of the French. I once went with a friend to take their baby for a check up at the local surgery, in their holiday location, and they said good day to the 15 people in the waiting room and they all said it back. All with eye contact and no mummbling. That done private conversations resumed.
