Are We Becoming a Third World Nation?
« on: January 29, 2023, 12:09:57 PM »
It's accepted that heading an article with a question the answer is always "No", however, this e-mail I've just received does beg the question:

And don't get me started on potholes or regular disruption to waste collection.

I love the way they deny it is going to happen and then tell you how bad it is going be at the end!  lol:

It went into my junk mail, it's one of those dammed if they do send it and dammed if they don't emails

I just love (not) this line  'Your  . . . broadband and home phone will not work during the power cut.'  Might just as well say 'burglars be aware, opportunity knocks'

Still a good time to invest in UPS futures . . .

 . . . .  was yesterday

Well, whatever, nevermind

It still an indication that this country's infrastructure is beginning to creak at the seams.

I doubt any country lives up to the expectations of all and probably not even most of its citizens.
Well, whatever, nevermind

Well, I guess if you have low expectations you're never going to be disappointed. I personally expect a higher level of service.

Well with the root problems we've got expect to continue to be disappointed.  We've long been having to import energy, even longer for food, we haven't balanced our books in yonks so rely on loans, we have an ageing population and with an economy that depends on trade we went and left the world's biggest trading block.  Add to that a population that only wants to buy stuff based on wages a fraction of what they would sniff that and wants to have an NHS but low taxes and it all doesn't add up to the ever increasing living standards politicians have to promise to get into office.
Well, whatever, nevermind

If you think that Net Zero is going to be a disaster there are now calls for Absolute Zero by 2050..  Banghead

No flights or shipping by 2050? How many countries rely on food beought in from overseas to feed their population?

By 2050?  You might not be.

What is getting more obvious every day is we won't get to net zero, there just isn't the electoral will for the efforts needed.  What we will move to is 'living with the effects of global warming'.

I'd refine it to most want net zero as long as it doesn't inconvenience them in any way.
