Cops in a hurry.
« on: November 06, 2007, 04:59:09 PM »
Just been 'bimbling' along our local motorway at about 75- 80, when i saw this motorbike coming up very fast in the outside lane.

It was a cop bike, doing approx 95-105 mph i'd guess. eeek:

Now I've got no problem with this IF he's on an emergency call, but why oh why if he is, aren't his blues and two's going? rubschin:
He didn't appear to be chasing anyone, and after the remaining 6/7 miles on the mororway before i turned off, there was no sign of him having pulled anyone over (no junctions for him to have turned off either)

Look. If someone can give me a valid reason for this, what appeared to be on the face of it, uneccessary and excessive speeding, fair enough, but i can't think of a reasonable one tbh.
This isn't the first time i've noticed this what appears to be....do as I say, not as i do behaviour.
You or i would be banned for exactly this. evil:

Believe it or not, given some of the similar news stories that have cropped up lately Berek may not be all that far from the truth.  eeek:

Think the problem here is that you believe that we are all answerable to the same laws that govern this beautiful land ( I am on my 2nd glass of wine  lol:).

This would be a fair assessment if only you did not happen to fall under any of the categories below:-
Royal Family
Politicians
Immigrants
Legal profession
Anybody who enforces any legislation - even byelaws
Traffic Wardens
Medical profession
any celebrity
anybody who slept with a celebrity
anybody who had a celebrity in their kitchen whistle:

Are we buying him a new cape for Christmas ?

In which case it should have tomato ketchup stains on it, builders dust shimmering on the lapel, smell of moth balls and be 2 sizes too small  ;D

Nick doesnt need a new cape, he was bestowed the title of Captain Calamity on here a while back. We are just waiting for the next cataclysNick incident so that we can promote him to Major Cock Up and then after that to General Disaster.  point:

I can't offer any reasonable causes as to why a Police motorcyclist would be zooming along at way over the speed limit.

Any legal reason - such as transporting live transplants, attending an emergency, rushing to catch bad guys all require the warning signals to be displayed.  That is, after all, why they have them.

Unless there is a legitimate reason that demands that he exceeds the speed limit, then he is subject to the same rules as the rest of us.

I don't suppose you got his number...   confused:

Actually, as I write, I can think of one valid reason.

It may be that he needed to close up on a suspect known to be ahead without drawing attention to himself and show that he is tailing someone, then as he approaches his target he would gradually slow so that he can quietly catch up unseen and hopefully unnoticed.

I may think of others...

I did actually think of that, but surely if he was chasing or trying to catch up with someone without being noticed by using his blues and twos, why wasn't he doing more like 150 mph that the bike is no doubt capable of?
The motorway wasn't that busy tbh.

This isn't the first time i've noticed this excessive use of speed without an obvious reason. P'raps they simply don't need one, especially for  us mere mortals? ::)
