Ok can someone explain this one to me?

This copper has admitted that while on duty he goes off, sleeps with a woman and propositions another one after she has been arrested. Obviously these are incidences of gross misconduct so why the hell has he been suspended on full pay?

A police officer has admitted having sex with a woman while on duty and propositioning another woman after she had been arrested.

Pc Gary Bayldon, 48, from Newport, Isle of Wight, is suspended from duty on full pay with the Hampshire force and will face an internal inquiry.

He admitted three counts of wilful misconduct in public office at Kingston Crown Court on Tuesday.

He will be sentenced on 28 October. The judge warned he could face prison.

Bayldon admitted visiting a woman while on late shift and having sexual intercourse with her between 31 August 2003 and 31 August 2004.

He pleaded guilty to visiting the same woman during the late shift and having sexual activity with her between 1 September 2004 and 17 January 2005.

He also admitted telling a woman in custody that she was gorgeous, stroking her hand and trying to kiss her while taking her home after she had been released on 25 October 2005.

Judge Charles Tilling warned Bayldon that all options would be considered but any jail term would not be longer than 12 months.

While his actions may be classed as minor breaches he still had an important position which he clearly abused. 12 months should be the minimum time he serves.

The prosecution offered no evidence on six other counts.

Det Insp Victoria Dennis, of Hampshire Constabulary's professional standards department, said: "Pc Bayldon's behaviour fell far short of the high standards that the force exacts from its staff and that the public deserve.

"His actions were highly untypical and do not represent the vast majority of police officers who serve Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

"Pc Bayldon was suspended from duty at Shanklin, Isle of Wight, in February 2007, and he will now face an internal misconduct hearing."

She confirmed that Bayldon was on full pay.

Because, like it or not, that is the system and if the Police Authorities do not follow the agreed procedure they will end up with a massive bill for compensation awarded against them by an industrial tribunal. The same lawyers that prosecuted him are quite capable of representing him at such a tribunal. That is what is wrong with the law in this country.
