'I'm Not Allowed To Land In Fog'
« on: December 18, 2008, 12:58:42 PM »
Quote from: Sky News
A pilot with more than 30 years experience has been forced to turn his plane around - because he was not qualified to land in fog.

Passengers on the 8.45am Flybe flight to Paris were just minutes away from landing at their destination when they were told they would have to go all the way back to Cardiff.

One passenger from Bristol missed a job interview in France because of the incident.

Cassandra Grant explained: "Twenty minutes outside Paris, the captain said, 'Unfortunately I'm not qualified to land the plane in Paris.

"'They are asking for a level two qualification and I only have a level five. We'll have to fly back.'"

 eeek: Ummm what the fuck???

Wouldn't you expect your pilot to be trained for any eventuality when you embarked on a commercial flight?

So. Someone please explain what would have happened if fog had since descended on Cardiff airport, and fuel by this time was sufficiently low to make landing elsewhere a no option dilema?

Errr, remind me NOT to book a Flybe flight....EVER.

Cheapskate airlines do not have continuous personal development programmes for their staff.
In my RAF days we used to service a lot of the "cheap" airlines planes because our expertise was greater than anything they could afford to employ. The RAF charged an agreed contract rate using the most highly qualified aircraft maintenance crews in the world. Monarch Airlines were one outfit I remember we did a lot off work on.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.
