Save Bletchley Park: Why I'm ashamed to be British

Quote from: The Torygraph
Have you heard of Bletchley Park? It’s just north of London, where more than ten thousand men and women worked during WW2 to decode messages sent between the German forces, most notably by Hitler, and the German high command. The cracking of the codes, the use of the intelligence gained and the subsequent related actions of the Allies is said to have shortened WW2 by two years possibly saving an estimated 22 million lives.

Bletchley Park is also the birthplace of the computer. The world's first programmable, digital, electronic computer, Colossus, was invented and built by Tommy Flowers and his team at Bletchley Park and Dollis Hill during World War Two. It automated a critical part of the process of deciphering encrypted German messages.

When we look back at this recession and the total fuck-up the government makes of it I wonder how many 'good causes' like this will have been overlooked to line bankers and politicians pockets...?

What do you expect from this government BM. Seeing as they obviously couldn't give two tosses about civil liberties what made you think that they would care about our heritage. If they can't line their pockets somehow then it isnt worth saving.  Banghead

Blame BT ~ They took it over from the General Post Office when the two split in the early 70s and have allowed it to rot away ever since. From time to time they have let out odd buildings but no maintenance has been carried out of the wooden huts for 30 years at least. Last time I went round the site (my company used to guard part of it) was some twenty years ago now and many of the original huts were falling down then and had H&S barriers around them.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.
