I.T. bods know best...
« on: March 25, 2009, 11:54:39 AM »
...NOT  evil:

We access a 'forex' site to order foreign currencies for the company. When we accessed it through IE7 the login process didn't work and the forex company advised us to use Firefox.

Wanting to add another user I asked for Firefox to be added to his computer. The I.T. bod hummed and hawed and said he would find a 'fix' for IE7. Three weeks down the line (fortunately the user had 'personal problems' and hadn't been in for a while  ;)) there's a note this morning saying that Safari had been installed (obviously the 'fix' didn't materialise). I try it out and of course it doesn't work.

 Banghead

Firefox is being installed as I type.

I have done battle again this morning with our lot and lost  - the lapdog saga continues - I am off to get chocolate - I can think of nothing else that will soothe my furrowed brow at this point in time  evil:

It's a long and painful story....basically I have reported it - 7 day turnaround for an engineer to assess on this priority level.  Banghead

If not worthy of repair I will have to make a business case on why I need a new one...which will then need to be submitted through our e-procurement processes and be approved by Director.

Simple - if I do not have a laptop - I cannot do my work.

I am borrowing someone else's for the moment as we only have lapdog's - part of the flexible working / work from home iniitaive. Which is great until it all goes tits up. Banghead Banghead Banghead

Indeed, I can just imagine what would be said if I told one of our brokers that he would have to wait 7 days.   eeek:

I got an ear bashing if it wasn't done the same day.

Always had to be ready as in, "here's one I made earlier".

So much money afloat in the public sector and they can't even replace a crappy old laptop? Priorities appear to be somewhat skewed. How about culling the c100,000 stupid jobs...oh, of course, they will vote for them, how silly of me and how I understand the utter wastage of my tax money. Utter custards. I hope they alll swing from a long rope, starting with Bruin. Cunts, cunts, cunts, cunts cunts.  evil:

I had great 'fun' with the tech support guys for a predictive dialler I was managing once. I spent 6 months telling them that it hadnt been properly set up only to be told that it was set up correctly and I didnt know how to run the system. So I managed to blag a copy of the main config file and lo and behold not only wasnt it properly configured, it was so full of typos and spelling mistakes I'm amazed that it was able to switch on in the morning.

I really enjoyed the following meeting with their rep.  eveilgrin:
The universe is run by the complex interweaving of three elements. Energy, matter, and enlightened self-interest.
