Motorists will be offered subsidies of up to £5,000 to encourage them to buy electric and hybrid cars under plans announced by the government.
It is part of the government's £250m plan to promote low carbon transport over the next five years.
But ministers do not expect the cars to hit the showrooms until 2011.
SourceI'm getting pissed off with this!
This story keeps popping up in the news about how wonderful and clean it will be, no nasty fumes, how that Volz car is as fast as a Ferrari, blah, fuckin' blah...
Nobody as far as I can see is asking the fundamental question about 'lectric cars... where the fuck is the 'lectric coming from?
There isn't enough generating capacity now... even if there was it would be generated by burning fossil fuels which somewhat defeats the object of having a 'lectric car... As it is, talk of having 100,000 extra 'lectric vehicles would put a huge strain on the generating system... effectively replacing fifty million gallons of unleaded with the equivalent amount of energy - more actually because 'lectric cars would be less efficient...
Piss off!
