Driving a convertible is bad for you

Driving a convertible car can seriously damage your ears, experts have warned.

Cruising with the top down at speeds of 50-70mph (80-112km/h) exposes the ears to sound levels sometimes nearing those made by a pneumatic drill, they argue.

"By winding up the windows or wearing basic ear protection, such as earplugs, drivers of convertibles can still enjoy driving whilst protecting their hearing."



As if anyone driving a convertible is going to think ..I know..I'll wear ear defenders to protect my ears

Wouldn't using earplugs be illegal?

I don't think so, many motorcyclists wear them even though they have crash helmets on too.

One of my boys wears them for swimming club but he can still hear the instructors. He says that they keep him from getting earache from the water and also claims they deaden the high pitched screeching that seems to echo round most swimming pools.

Don't think I would wear a helemet when swimming. There again I can't swim.
