Hero or Victim of Darwinism?
« on: November 22, 2009, 08:38:43 AM »
So a policeman, of whom nobody but his family and friends would have heard had it not been for the manner of his death is called a hero.
What do we call the idiot who set off in a canoe on a flood swollen river and drowned?

Sorry but the policeman was just doing his job .... he is no hero. He was unfortunate but would be with us today had he selected somewhere else to stand to direct traffic. Only a fool stands on a dangerous bridge to redirect traffic. He could have stood on the approach to the bridge and done the job just as well.A poor decision caused his demise as did the choice made by the canoeist. Neither are heroes, both made lousy decisions ~ Darwin is proved right again.

I agree on him not being a hero, but I'll hold judgement on him being a fool for standing where he was until the full circumstances of the event are known.  This was a wide span bridge and he may have moved forward to try and prevent somebody crossing the bridge

Quote
In her letter, released by Cumbria Police, Emma wrote: ?Thank you everyone for giving cards to me and my family and supporting us by ?giving us flowers, hugs and kisses.

?It has been a disaster over the last few days for my family and me, and people have been making ?dinner for our family.

?The nice people have been ?coming to see my mum and all our family as well as my gran. My dog, Sam, went over to my dad?s shoes and smelt them, then lay down beside them. I have about 500 cards and all of them make me better. Eleven people have come today as they love my family and before I go, thank you for the cards.

?Love from Emma.?

Bless her little heart

Meanwhile, more coppers needed to save people from themselves

Calva Bridge in Workington has been closed since to traffic since it was damaged by floodwater.
However, three vehicles were spotted driving across it on Thursday, after occupants removed temporary barriers
