Oh to be able to do this

The Earl of Cadogan did not enjoy a meal he was served at The Oriel in Sloane Square a couple of years ago.
The Oriel's lease expires next month and the leaseholder ~ Yes the very same Earl of Cadogan has said "No, I will not renew your lease because you serve crap food"

So the Oriel will close and the Earl's estate managers are looking for a new tenant who will be more committed to providing a good meal at a sensible price.

Brilliant!

I have eaten (once) in the Oriel and I have to say I agree with the Earl, overpriced, indifferent food and slovenly service was my experience.

Oh if only it were within my power to deal with poor service and overpricing in such a way. eveilgrin:

Man has more money than brains IMHO...  noooo:

Why turn out a tenant that wanted to renew the lease - clearly they were running a successful business whether he liked the food or not...

I think this may just be a thinly veiled excuse to get rid of the current leaseholder for whatever reason he had. All this altruistic nonsense doesn't wash  noooo:

Very good PR for him though  whistle:

"Oh to be able to do this"  rubschin:  Yep, I sympathise with that; to be able to shut a restaurant that was clearly endangering public health, to dismiss a public servant that had his or her snout in the trough, to sack a bus driver who was behaving recklessly.

The Oriel brasserie has been a social hub for what, 25 years or so. I've met up there on several occasions; sure the drinks are west end prices and the food's (I only ate there once from memory) pricey for what it is. If you want value for money you're better off with the caff just south on Holbein Place.

I don't think for a moment this is about a dodgey plate of grub that Charlie Chelsea had a couple of years ago; it's probably about a hike in the rent and both parties taking positions as usually happens. The old Mirror loves a good class war story  lol:

I can still think of a few places I'd like to do this to.  eveilgrin:

It is the complete reverse of the "So good I bought the company" line.
