The kettle has a red light on it but it is black and does not light up.

So. It's got a red light on it that's black, but it doesn't work? 

You buy this at the £ shop?

OK second try, pay attention at the back and do try not to fall asleep.

1.  The colour of the kettle is black.

2.  There is a red light under the on off/switch which glows red when the appliance is switched on.

3.  Both the kettle and the light work as they should.

4.  The kettle was purchases from John Lewis.

JOM not sure if I would love that thing or hate it. Brilliant idea though.

But if you buy a new kettle then you have to get a new toaster to match   

And to save getting a matching pan, you could get one of these  

That was considered and deemed inappropriate by SWWLTBO on the grounds that with 5 in the family it wouldn't make enough toast at one go. My brother has one but he lives alone. Perfect for him.
