It all makes work for the working man to do

Yes I know ~ Flanders and Swann .... very funny song but oh so true.

As I have mentioned before if you retire to a village then pretty soon people start coming to you to sit on various local committees, organise events etc. ~ all on the grounds that "you have nothing else to do all day".

Foolishly I agreed to become a Trustee of the Charity that runs the Community Hall in this village and two years found myself, following the death of the Secretary elected to that post. Then the Treasurer resigned for "personal reasons" and I got saddled with that job too. It makes some sense to combine the two roles but to cover my arse I said I would only do both jobs if I was NOT a signatory on the bank account.

Of course being both sec and treasurer means that everyone comes to me with any problems.

Several of the lights in the main hall ceased to function a couple of weeks ago and the matter was duly reported to me. I contacted the electricians, with whom we have a maintenance contract, and they fitted 6 new 5 ft tubes and three "starters". All lights are now working again.
The bill dropped on the mat this morning £264.73  eeek:
As any right thinking person would I queried this. Apparently the tubes and starters cost less than £50. The balance was because they had to use a scaffold tower, for H&S reasons, to reach them and "High Work" costs as they now have to send two men to erect the tower!
Given that this architect designed building, that cost £350,000 to build, has only stood for ten years why did the fvcking architect not specify lights that could be lowered for repair/replacement? Such things are now and were then available.
