I was in the local surgery a couple of years ago when an elderly lady was being pressed by the receptionist to book an appointment for a flu jab.
"It's very important .... flu can kill vulnerable people" said the receptionist.
"Look dear" replied the old lady "I am 85, I survived the blitz, I have had measles, whooping cough, chickenpox, mumps, I have had every possible vaccination over the years, I have stopped smoking, I don't eat beef, I don't drink and the nurse has just suggested I have a pneumonia vaccination because I am going into hospital and may contract that whilst there .... tell me ..... what am I supposed to die of?"
I was tempted to start a round of applause.
