I cannot believe that common sense hasn't prevailed here Let's see somebody at the FA have the balls to ignore FIFA, wear the shirts complete with poppies, take whatever fine is imposed, then demand the fine is given to the Royal British Legion and other similar charities (I just watched a moving five minute clip about St Dunstans on TV a few minutes ago)

Surely the whole point about the poppy is that it is (was) made to provide employment for disabled soldiers and to commemorate the fallen. Obviously an embroidered logo will not produce the income that is derived from making a donation to the British Legion to buy your poppy. Unless, of course, the FA are making a substantial donation to cover the use of the emblem. The wearing of a plastic and paper poppy on a football shirt clearly contravenes the rules about wearing items that may cause injury to players ~ that is why they wear tape over their wedding rings and have to remove earrings etc before the game.

I can see no reason why they cannot wear proper poppies on their track suits that are removed before play commences.

My feeling is that this is a bit of media inspired bollix.

I'm sure the poppies would have been embroidered or printed onto the shirts like this Arsenal shirt



Anyway, as this has progressed, they can wear it on the tracksuits, they can wear the tracksuits when the anthems are played, they can lay a poppy wreath in the middle of the pitch before kick off, they will hold a minutes silence, they were going to be allowed to wear black armbands, byut noew they can wear the black armbands with a poppy embroidered into them

It was good to see that Prince William in his capacity as president of the FA and a serving serviceman wrote to FIFA about this, I would imagine it had some effect in partly changing minds.  :thumbsup:
