Sheppey crossing crash

I see there are calls for safety measures after the pile-up in Kent.

There have been calls for lighting and speed restrictions on a bridge in Kent where 130 vehicles were involved in a series of crashes in thick fog.

The operative words are "thick fog", if drivers used a bit of common sense and changed their driving to suit the conditions then this wouldn't have happened. Also there were reports of some vehicles not having lights on.
 noooo:

I'm not sure who's worst, those who call for more safety measures, restrictions etc. every time something like this happens, or those that obviously need to be told how to do anything.

You're right - it is surely about personal responsibility and common sense....

Unfortunately, nanny state has taken both away from the populace... they need to be told (and controlled) what is a safe speed for each stretch of road now and speed limits are constantly being reduced to make roads 'safe' in a ridiculous 'one size fits all basis'....

The unintended consequence of this madness is that if a speed limit on a road is 50 that is the speed they will drive at - regardless of the conditions....  noooo:

All is explained in just 3 words:  "Isle of Sheppey"

Lets just say that no winner of Mastermind has come from there but several scratch card winners have
Well, whatever, nevermind

Experience in France is that when it rains I would say most if not all people respond and put their lights on so why do those here have such a problem?   Admittedly, when there is a downpour in France it is sometimes quite severe and often results in traffic just parking till it has passed.   rubschin:

I was working from home yesterday afternoon with Skynews on in the background and they were talking to an "expert".

"So then Mr Expert, what was the cause of the crash"

"Oh, the weather". Mute button was engaged from that moment  Wankah:

For my sins I have to travel down the M23 to work.  Quite apart from the staggering number of cars on the road at 03:45, I lapse into a Tourette's rant on most mornings.  Without fail the subject of my rants os the appalling driving of mini cab drivers,  the vast majority of whom are of Asian extraction.  >:(>:(>:(

Just close all roads into and out of Sheppey.  It's not like anyone would miss it
Well, whatever, nevermind
