So now everyone knows where the secret bunker is,..........
Taken from an open forum......
"This morning our walking group unwittingly found ourselves in the middle of this exercise.. We were walking from Filiotis to Mandria on a track not far from the sea. Our walk was enlivened by identifying various types of Cypriot Army equipment, such as a truck with mobile radar, camouflaged battle tanks, rocket launchers etc, while overhead we saw the F16's referred to in previous posts. Also of course soldiers fully armed! We were stopped a couple of times by them, I think they were curious as to what a bunch of middle aged mainly expats were doing strolling through the middle of their war games scene! They were good natured and let us pass so we reached the little chapel on the ridge above the sea at Mandria. The chapel, usually hosting christenings, was providing shade for soldiers, in the covered area outside. Here we found the doors open on an underground bunker opposite. The Chapel was kindly unlocked for us so we could see inside, by a Cypriot lady. We were given 5mins to view it before moving on. Soldiers around looked at us curiously. Leaving the area, we tried to use a previously recce'd path down to the beach road. Here we found another rocket launcher, and were told to leave. On our return we used an alternative route which was probably just as well!!
It was a walk on a lovely sunny morning, but one which most of us will remember. So much for it being a secret exercise(if it was). It would have been better if it had been publicised beforehand.."
