When did having a contrary opinion become trolling ?

When various t'internet groups or people don't like a comment or it doesn't fit in with the 'culture ' of the group people are banned for being trolls . Bloody ludicrous hypocrisy 

I am included on some local community FB group that are a bunch of hand wringing, curtain twitching nazi's.

Occasionally they have some useful info  which is why I still  persist but it is very, very,occasionally.

They are in hyper drive at the moment with the main comments always including the essential " did you report it "  ?

Anyway one worried mouse posted something yesterday about some high level crime going on in their area - someone discarding household waste in a street litter bin .  God forbid and bring back hanging !!!

Anyway a couple of cheeky chappies just commented  that they didn't see anything wrong with it at least it was in the bin etc. However they had also made the cardinal sin of disagreeing with others yesterday about the fact that there were a couple of young lads behind the rugby shed having a spliff.  They didn't quite jump on the " you're murdering people by not being 2 metres apart and where are their parents "  campaign.

Anyways today they have been banned by the Admin for being 'trolls'.

I have never commented on anything but felt that I had to add my two penneth. They weren't being nasty to anyone they just had a different outlook /opinion.

Apparently now I have been removed

It is definitely getting worserer...

Seems extreme, would be good to see the actual posts but I guess they've been removed.  Looks very much like biased moderating to suppress views the admin disagreed with.  A real  imho

Some sites are that harsh especially on new members.  For info on the forum I moderate, the rule on trolling is

7.  Trolling

Will be seen as a breach of rule 2 (Prohibited Usage and material).  Trolling includes content (words or images) intended to provoke emotional responses from others rather than to make debating points.

Usual practice is to just remove the trolling sometimes to a shame area.  If it's persistent a warning may get issued and 5 warnings (a full house) equals a 2 week ban for a first full house usually doubled for each successive occurrence

Appreciate this isn't the most urgent thing right now - especially when I hear about exhausted local NHS workers getting abused for being allowed to queue jump - but does anyone have any suggestions re. this? Some selfish sod has been doing it for a while now, but got worse during lockdown. Missed whoever it was who just dumped a fresh Waitrose bag in there just now. Clearly doesn't want vermin-attracting crap incl cat food pouches and veg peelings over his/her own lawn once the foxes have had their nightly fun. Previously reported to LBH but nothing done. We have a toddler, it's disgusting and a health hazard.

The whole godawful phenomena of having a different opinion equals trolling is a direct result of the insidious safe space, politically correct, inclusive shite that has become so pervasive over the last few years which has led to a complete atrophy of people's ability to debate and because they can't argue their position you are therefore a troll, homophobe, nazi etc and your opinion is worthless. It's the same thing that has led to parts of history being rewritten because they are 'problematic', statues being pulled down and in one case a monument to fallen soldiers of WW1 being demolished.

I've been banned from a couple of forums as well as Twitter because I asked some questions that were considered to be against their sacred truth. Usually variations of:

How can you justify x
 or
You've previously say x but now you've done y. Doesn't that make you a hypocrite

Because people are unable to think for themselves now or have an opinion ....if you go "against the flow " ..   you are a commie or Nazi ..

On a site where they were wishing Captain Tom happy birthday ..I pointed out it was not his birthday yet ...and got a load of abuse ..called a "keyboard warrior" ..
because I stated a fact ......

or if you point out you can't understand what their point is because the spelling is so bad ,it makes no sense ..I am a "grammar Nazi"..or gramma ??...
