Quail Eggs
« on: September 07, 2008, 11:15:54 AM »
Bit of market research here.
Anybody regularly or otherwise buy quail eggs (pickled, in brine or uncooked) or for that matter quail as meat?
Serious question as I am trying to guage the likely market.

For that matter anybody here keep birds (exotic or otherwise)?

NO NICK not the  eyes: sort

Again serious research ongoing.

No thank you ~ I do know how to kill a bird without recourse to a baseball bat. We're not all "townies" you know.

You can't keep an ostrich in an Aviary, nor would I trust small boys to look after one.

This is an exercise in responsibility and in earning their own pocket money. I did it with chicken when I was a nipper but we had more space then. They are enthused with the idea as am I.

"I am not looking after them!"

However she appreciates the principle and is looking forward to the eating of said eggs and meat.

Never tried quail. Wots it like like?

Can you get quail nuggets? That might be a good idea for a product range. Quail burgers. KFQ, quail dippers, etc.

Quail retail at anything up to a fiver a brace. They are so small you'd only get one nugget per bird anyway.

I buy quail eggs quite a bit, but although I have eaten, I have never purchased an actual quail.
