Iceland is upset with the UK

The Icelanders are p*ssed off with us and in particular Gordon Brown for using the Terrorism Laws to block their assets until they have sorted their banking problems and paid us what they owe us.

Quote
"It's really simple," a lawyer in Iceland told me. "Those that I have spoken to are determined not to go to the UK any time soon, if ever."

So we will be spared any more Bjork and there will never be another Magnus Magnussen.

Best thing Gordon has ever done IMHO  whistle:

I am seriously p*ssed off that our government used Terrorism Laws as well.

Libertarian groups and others warned about 'function creep' when these laws were introduced but did anyone listen?

Nope ~ I remember saying at the time, on this board, that give the lawyers/police powers and it doesn't matter what the original intent or ministerial assurances that are uttered they will misuse them ...... I am only surprised that they have taken so long.

Still ~ if it means no more Bjork ..................... Can't be all bad.

So, should the UK have used terrorism laws to freeze Iceland's assets or even should we have frozen them at all? Will it set a precedent and every country start doing the same, not only to Iceland but any other country having troubles as well.

She reported that a friend of hers had fallen into a whale's vagina and had to be pulled out by a crane (suction problem)

In my opinion they were right to block any assets from leaving the UK until things had been sorted out but wrong in the way they went about it.
In fact why the hell were they allowing these poorly financed banks to operate in the UK in the first place?

Once the dust settles and Gordo is strutting round claiming to have "saved the day" some very serious questions have to be asked and answered by both him and Ed Balls about the things they allowed actively encouraged when they were at the Treasury.

From a legal standpoint I'm not sure I agree Snoop. The sections of the Crime and anti terror laws used were meant to stop crime but Iceland didnt commit a crime. To be fair if the icelandic government had turned around to its people and said that the banks had gone belly up but they were going to secure foreign savings and investments at the detrement of their own then it would have caused uproar there. How is that a crime?

This government has shown that it is perfectly willing to ignore both the spirit and the letter of the law in favour of making a quick political gain and that terrifies me, especially as they are rabidly banging on about the need for an Orwellian communications database.
The universe is run by the complex interweaving of three elements. Energy, matter, and enlightened self-interest.
