Milligan sale 'upsets' children

Spike Milligan received an honorary knighthood in 2001
Memorabilia owned by the late Spike Milligan has been put up for sale without the knowledge of his children, one of his daughters has claimed.

The comic's widow decided to put the previously unseen collection under the hammer because she is moving house.

In a statement on behalf of four of Milligan's children, his daughter Sile said they had not "been consulted" and were "deeply distressed" over the sale.

The sale, which takes place on Tuesday, includes books, letters and drawings.

'Personal effects'

A notebook of comical radio skits, a grand piano played by Milligan's friend Sir Paul McCartney, and notes from the Prince of Wales and Michael Parkinson will also be part of the auction.

"Spike's children, while wishing to maintain a dignified silence, wish also to make it quite clear that they have had, and will have, no involvement in this event, nor will they profit from it in any way," Sile said.

"They have not been consulted over the sale and are deeply distressed that their father's personal effects are being put up for sale in this way."

Shelagh, Milligan's widow lived with him for 27 years.

Speaking to Bonhams magazine earlier this month, she said: "I just don't have the space in my new house to put everything.

"And the alternative is that I carry on paying these huge storage bills and everything just sits there rotting away.

"But I can't pretend I'm going to find it easy. When we were cataloguing various items for the sale, I went to the store and it felt as if our whole life was laid out in front of me."

The auction takes place at Bonhams on 25 November. Milligan died in 2002 at the age of 83.

Who's she kidding, this is about making money. Yes a grand piano would take up room and cost money to store. But notes from the Prince of Wales and Parkie aren't exactly going to fill a room. OK, the kids MAY sell the items on themselves, but the least she could have done was to offer them to the children first

Bloody disgusting. cussing:

Don't talk to me about feuds when it comes to deceased parents effects.
I'm currently on the look out for a new bladder, following the current one boiling dry regarding the behaviour of both my 1 year ago deceased step mother and her son who've both/did reap the benefit of my much loved deceased fathers estate when he died 11 years ago, and now my brother and I, and GROWLER junior's have been left with virtually nowt in comparison to what HE's been left with.

GROWLERS junior always and religiously carried on seeing the old witch after my dad died, and me occassionaly to keep the peace, and she didn't have the decency to leave them ANYTHING of any description in her will. eeek:

My father will be turning in his grave at her downright bloody meaness, and ther's nowt me and our kid can do about it.
Meanwhile her cocky son has just gone out and purchased some very flash and very expensive Austrian motorbike, mostly funded, I guess, by what would have been my dads savings that was left to keep his wifes life comfortable.
Dunno before you ask as bikes leave me cold. Shrugs:

There are two ways to treat this. (i) is to leave a will, detailing exactly where you want ALL of your possessions to go and what you want to happen. (ii) is to leave nowt and f*ck the lot of them ~ I am taking the second route.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

Do they have elections in perpetuity? I thought that was a benevolent dictatorship.
