DS. Farming question

What's this new regulation that's coming out next spring, regarding useage of farm land for anything other than agriculture. confused:

My landowning landlord has been rattling on about it, and how it's going to stifle any other activities, but not being a subscriber to the Rich Mans Farmers weekly, I can't quite fathom what he's going on about.

Why do you lot have to talk so bloody fast? ::)

The "regulation" is just a clean up at the tail end of the 1988 act.

Of course your landlord may have been bending some rules to let you do your thing up to now. . .

I thought it was exclusive to you Range Rover driving, green wellie wearing, shotgun toting cravat types, not us mere mortals. ::)

Apparently, the piece of land that I have exclusive rights to use, were used by the milatry during WW2 for storing ammo and equipment, and now have historic rights....so he says, whatever all that means. confused:

The link you posted? Which part of that mag do I need to read to get up to speed on this particular regulation then oh wise one?

There are some funny rules around land taken over by the military in wartime, but I know nothing about that I'm afraid.

During both wars the War Ministry (Now the MOD) requisitioned a lot of farm land in various parts of the country. This land was used for a number of purposes but mostly storage and/or training. Following the Second World War some of the land was returned to the owners, in some cases (too many in fact) to their heirs. Some of the land was retained by the military and still is. Some of it was "loaned" back to the owners with the proviso that the military would retain ownership and could reclaim the land should they ever need it. Much of this land had "restrictions as to use" placed on it (Historic Rights) ~ this may be what your land owner is talking about. If you get nowhere with him try your local planning office ~ they should have details. Failing that, if your county has a "County Archeologist" (and not all do) They might be able to help as they will have maps and information about any "Historic Rights" that have come to their attention over the years.
