Green car subsidy plan unveiled
« on: April 16, 2009, 06:08:48 AM »
Quote from: BBC Web Shite
Motorists will be offered subsidies of up to £5,000 to encourage them to buy electric and hybrid cars under plans announced by the government.

It is part of the government's £250m plan to promote low carbon transport over the next five years.

But ministers do not expect the cars to hit the showrooms until 2011.

I'm getting pissed off with this!  cussing:

This story keeps popping up in the news about how wonderful and clean it will be, no nasty fumes, how that Volz car is as fast as a Ferrari, blah, fuckin' blah...  ::)

Nobody as far as I can see is asking the fundamental question about 'lectric cars... where the fuck is the 'lectric coming from?  Shrugs:

There isn't enough generating capacity now... even if there was it would be generated by burning fossil fuels which somewhat defeats the object of having a 'lectric car... As it is, talk of having 100,000 extra 'lectric vehicles would put a huge strain on the generating system... effectively replacing fifty million gallons of unleaded with the equivalent amount of energy - more actually because 'lectric cars would be less efficient...  noooo:

Piss off!

PS i'm quite keen on scrappage tho...  whistle:

The government is also expected to announce a car scrappage scheme in the budget on 22 April.

This will provide £2,000 for car owners to trade in their old cars to buy new ones.

The plan is designed to boost demand for new cars and help struggling carmakers who are suffering during the recession.

The twenty year old Purple Turtle has just gained a new lease of life...  cloud9:

Mind you, the car I replace it with won't be made in the UK or even contain UK sourced parts - that's another waste of taxpayer's money then...  ::)

Similar schemes have proved successful in continental Europe. In Germany, for example, car sales increased by 40% in March compared with a year earlier.

Indeed... However, see if you can spot the tiny difference between the German motor industry and the UK motor industry...?

I have always thought that the worst thing about drowning was having to call 'help!' You must look such a fool. It's put me against drowning.
