VirginMedia. Liar! Liar! Pants on fire!
« on: May 31, 2009, 01:28:44 PM »
Well the redundancy money has now run out and it's time to make some serious economies.

First target, Fone, internet & cable TV from virgin media.

Current Package :

10 meg broadband (the lowest the do, remember this)
Fone is free calls evening and weekends.
TV. Biggest package without sport or movies.

Cost : About £50 plus calls.

I phone them with a view to reducing services and therefore costs.

Simples (sorry unc).

Fone call number ONE:

Me: Hi I'm skint, what can i cut down to reduce costs?
VM: Nowt. All your services except broadband and fone line rental are free plus you get £25 'loyalty' discount because we ruined your Christmas a couple of years ago.
Me: So, my broadband and line rental cost £50 a month then?
VM: Er..Yes...Ish...

At this point I hang up in confusion and decide to review paperwork etc to be fully prepared for fone call number TWO:

Me: Hi I;m skint what can I cut down to reduce costs?
VM: Well TG, we understand your situation so we have introduced a new 2meg dirt cheap connection. Plus if we do this, that and another thing we can get your costs down to well below £25 and you will only lose some channels and free calls on weekdays. If thats OK we can do it from midnight tonight and you will also get £8.50 of your next bill.
Me: Er..OK. Ta!

Result!

When using call centers if you dont get a good response from the first operator then ring back and get another one who will go the extra mile.

Virgin media customer services still have work to do but they are well ahead of the situation when they took over from NTL and I collided head on with them over Xmas a couple of years ago.

I am a fully satisfied customer of Virgin Media.  eeek:

Fortunately we do not have cable in this village  whistle:

Using BT Landlines my internet (broadband ~ no limits ~ wireless to 4 lap-tops and ethernet cable to my PC) + line rental and free UK calls 24/7 (except all the abnormal numbers like 08s 09s etc and mobiles) provided by Telecom Plus costs me £30 per month. Have already got free-view in one room and free-sat in another so no on costs for TV viewing.

So your deal looks OK ~ only problem I can see (sorry to piss on your parade) is that having changed your deal over the phone you now are tied into a NEW contract, probably for the next 18 months.

You are prolly right (though no contract was mentioned) but the fact is I would only change it upwards if I get a job so I doubt if they would object.

Mrs TG can continue to watch 'stenders on rollback without me having to sit through it!  razz:

A big plus ~ I'm lucky Mrs S#2 has no interest in watching TV let alone soaps. Even if she does sit down with the set on she will be doing something else (knitting, sewing, embroidery, patchwork etc.) and usually has no idea what programme is on. I get to watch footy and rugby and she is completely unaware of it. About the only thing that makes her look up is if the kids switch channels to the Simpsons or Bloody Sponge Bob and then she goes ballistic.
