What's so special about Beachy Head
« on: June 01, 2009, 07:43:49 PM »
Why , when people are considering ending their own life do they choose to go to this place to do it ....?

Surely if you are going to throw yourself off a cliff wouldn't you just drive to the nearest one and be done....or is there a greater chance of success in this place ?

Has it got better parking facilities.....a free phoneline installed for the doubting Thomas'es ( or whatever the plural for Thomas is  Shrugs: ) .....a mobile burger van in case you haven't eaten and in which case more likely to float ??????

Why ?????

Partly tradition I suppose. It is easy to access, there is little chance, once committed, of actually hitting anything until you hit the bottom and that is usually fatal thus there is no pain on the way down.

I dunno. Perhaps it's just a case of once one does it others will follow.

I have always felt it would take more courage than I possess. The body fights hard to maintain life as I know only too well so one has to resist that inbuilt instinct and maybe having reached that stage you just want to be sure you go through with it.

The bit I don't understand is why take your kid with you? That really puzzles me.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

At least one part of the puzzle is unravelled with the news on the BBC this morning that the couple found at the foot of Beachy Head had the body of their dead child, who is thought to have died of an illness, in a rucksack with them when they jumped. The theory is that they could not "come to terms" with the child's death. Now that I can understand. Don't mind admitting I cried when I heard that. Poor, poor people. In death they thought they would be reunited. I do hope their prayers were answered.

Although thinking on Snoops question of why take your child with you. I imagine that if you were to take your own life then at least if you took your child too you wouldn't have the worry of who would look after them after you were gone.

And why Beachy Head. As far as I can remember no suicide has ever failed there. It is fool proof so if you are sure then there is no way you will survive.

rubschin: - The cliff there is the highest chalk sea cliff in Britain, rising to 162 m (530 ft) above sea level.

Cases such as these though are a little suspcious do you not think ...On January 9th 2000, Paula Ramsden, a 32 year old mother of 2 fell from Beachy Head during a night-time stroll with her husband. He had recently increased her life insurance from £104,000 to £225,000. He was also having an affair. At inquest into her death, the Coroner, passed an ‘open’ verdict. He thought that there was insufficient information available on which to pass a verdict of ‘unlawful killing’

If my partner suggested a  feckin night time stroll on Beachy Head I would be highly suspcious  eeek: eeek: eeek:

If you have the normal feminine sense of direction he would get away with saying it was Hyde Park.

As cliffs go its absolutely MASSIVE though innit?

I mean if you do a swan dive off that you ain't looking for attention.

No cliffs to jump off round here so its off the roof or kitchen table etc.  noooo:

I think my cat wants to kill me...
