Case for public transport?
« on: November 14, 2009, 04:58:56 PM »
After my experiences today, and trying to be as unbiased and reasonable as possible, I've now after great thought and subjectivnusnuss come to the final and overwhelming conclusion that public transport IS SHITE. Total and utter SHITE. cussing:

Case study:

Transport meself and Growler Jnr from Growler Towers to Livapooell on Merseeeyrail. Change at Lime St, and then Northern Trains train to Sheffield, single.
Total cost including car park @just 80p for the day (most reasonable) ?47.25.
Total time taken, 3hours 10 minutes.

Take car.
78 miles approx ?8-10 of diesel
Total time taken 2 hours max.
Own sounds or silence, and no objectionable stinking breath non stop loud mouthed yapping bobble hat'd geek sitting next to me, rubbing shoulders and legs against mine,  sick2:  so bad that I actually had to move carriages cussing: or Becks and Carlsberg swilling (at 09:00am ffs! eeek: ) footie fans yobbing off to each other.

All a bit of a no brainer really in'it?

Agreed!

In fact it is privately owned and publicly run transport - another Labour fuck up.

Public transport should be publicly ownbed and run... and cheap enough for all the proles to use.

Leaving the roads free for those of us that can afford a car...  whistle:

Now I must say that the views across the Peak District from the carriage were very pleasant, and inbetween halts, the driver did actually give the loud pedal the biffters, and I also could have p'raps trimmed half an hour off the journey if I hadn't got to Lime St. so early.
I always panic about being early fror public transport though...bit of wumman in me I suppose. ::)

Another objection though. Lime St station charge you 30p for a flaming gush!!
I went when I got there, and needed another one before I got on the train. ::)

60 bloody pence to empty me tanks! cussing:

Of course the worst thing...apart from the cost, is the one thing they could never and will never be able to sort, and that is who you have to share your journey with.
Generally total dirty smelly loud gobby objectionable arse holes that I have absolutely no desire to share my breathing space with.

You can stick yer public transport thank you. but I will add that I feel desperately sorry for those that feel the same as me but for whatever reasons, have no choice.
I feel for you now, overwhelmingly. sad32:

P'raps not quite as bad during the week?   rubschin:
I dunno, you tell me.

Going long distances in the car does have its drawbacks, mainly fellow motorists and hold ups/contaflows/road closures/getting lost/traffic lights/rozzers hiding in wheelie bins etc., etc, but at least you can normally decide who to be with and when to go wherever.
The train does take some of the strain I conclude, but that's about it imo.

You cannot beat the train for commuting in to London though.

There is no excuse for public transport ~ not even commuting which I did for some 25 years all told. Firstly from Southampton to London Wall in a mini ~ long before the M3 or the M25. Latterly from Hertfordshire into Holborn in various Mondeos. In between there was a brief period of commuting from Ipswich to Barnet in a Vectra ...... Now that was a tedious 75 miles each morning and evening.

Other countries manage to run fast, efficient, value for money, train services (Try the Dutch or German ones) so why we cannot is beyond comprehension.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

Goes without saying I suppose. There again, isn't walking / crwaling a quicker alternative to taking your car in?
Couldn't be doing with all that nose to nose crushing on the tube though.  noooo:  sick2:
