Now there's a thought  rubschin:

What is the appropriate head gear for such a conveyance?  ;)

I got scolded by a fellow mountain biker for not wearing a helmet.

I told him it was MY choice, and that 1) I felt uncomfortable wearing one, 2) they make me 'ed sweat, 3) I'd rather die doing something I enjoy than to lie in a hospital bed before finally croaking it with me uncurable illness, finally choking on me own saliva after 6 weeks with tubes sticking out of every orifice.  cussing:

He looked slightly embarrased and rode off without another werd, H&S tosser.

Well done Growler!  happ096

Well I mean, come on.
WTF is it to do with him ffs?
I was gobsmaked that some random eejit starts giving me a penny lecture, cheeky arse tit.

I don'yt take unecessary risks, and know my limitations, but if an accident happens, then so be it.
Can't actaully see one of those flimsy plastic cycle helemts offering much protection to me against a boulder if i had come a cropper on me way down 'me'ill' last night at the speed I was going tbqatth. noooo:

Shit happens sometimes. ::)

Precisely...

Look. We've all got to croak it one day. I think about it sometimes, more as I get older.
As I say to sheeples, it's not the being ded that worries and concerns me, it's the bit leading up to it that makes me shit meself. Seen to many folk suffer terribly, and it's not for me if I can possibly avoid it thank you.

Shouldn't really make light of it I know, but it's what eventually 'appens in'it?
I sincerley hope I croak it on a mountain somewhere nice like, problee a 'eart attack, and preferably accelerated by some mountain nymph that i randomly stumble across. cloud9:

I'm in two minds about the wearing of safety helmets on me mountain bike. Like you Growler, I actually hate wearing the effing thing; in fact I didn't even possess one until a few years ago when someone gave me theirs 'cos they no longer needed it.
There's nothing like feeling the wind through your hair (BM take note!)  ;) , but I do acknowledge that here in the 'smoke' it's all too common to get clipped by a truck with fatal consequences and the helmet might save your life.

Added to that I remember vividly the story of the young son of an acquaintance who was mountain biking up your way G in Ellesmere Forest; poor lad got launched off his bike and straight into a tree and died of brain damage. Aside from the tragedy I suspect he's was attempting things he wasn't really capable of, and not wearing the appropriate gear suffered the consequences  noooo:

This whole thing started with the compulsory wearing of crash helmets for motorcyclists...  evil:

From that followed seat bets in cars, rear seat belts, crash helmets on bikes and gawd knows what other restrictions on our liberty...

I'm with growler... I'd like the option to make my own decisions and take my own risks...

Nanny State, fuck right off!  cussing:

But now these statements of ours will lead us w i d e open to those that will turn around and say, "that's all well and good, but it won't be you that has to pick the pieces up."

Well I'd personally rather that than some poor nurse having to turn some life support machine off with your distraught family looking on.

Whatever, however, this is not a particulary pleasant subject to be discussing, especially as it's your BD BM.

You're right tho...

Better to go out doing something you enjoy than 'live' the last ten years of your life not knowing anybody and needing a nurse to wipe your arse...  noooo:

I'm all for a quick exit me...  cloud9:
