Lifetime warranty
« on: August 20, 2010, 08:28:52 AM »
Was discussing this with the boss at one of our local main stealers yesterday. rubschin:

http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/owners_services/warranty_assistance/vauxhall_lifetime_warranty.html

At first glance it really does look most excellent, but on his admission, it could possibly have an adverse effect on new car sales in 3 years time, which is when many 'get shut' due to the manufacturer warranty finishing.
ALL warranties are a complete and utter can of werms however.

How long before the others follow I wonder? rubschin:

Terms and conditions apply. whistle:

Life Time Warranty ......
Utterly worthless, it is full of caveats. I look forward to seeing what the courts make of it.

For example
Quote
Available to the first owner of all new Vauxhall passenger cars, it’s valid for the lifetime of the vehicle up to a maximum of 100,000 miles.

Which I would interpret as saying that they do not expect the vehicle to last longer than 100,000 miles. I have had cars that have done twice that.

And then it only applies to the first owner ~ so Vauxhall will not honour the lifetime guarantee if you trade your car, as my late FiL used to do every two years with about 25,000 on the clock.

Then move on and look at the rest of the "conditions"

But why be bored by me doing that. Pull 'em apart for yourselves.

It is worth mentioning that a basic legal requirement is that any "conditions" should be reasonable. I can see some lawyer driving a coach and horses through this so called warranty.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.
