Motivational thought / email of the day
« on: October 13, 2010, 08:37:09 AM »
How best to motivate you first thing in the morning  rubschin:

We have just received a message from our esteemed  Leader  ::) - essentially saying that all summer holiday leave will be cancelled in 2012   eeek: eeek: eeek:   - due to the Olympics and if you go off sick you may face disciplinary action if not backed up by medical evidence.

Oh and obviously this only applies to staff that are still left in employment  noooo:

They can do anything they like ..... If the staff don't like it they have the right to contest the matter via their union. Holiday entitlements are a matter of law but not when you can take them.... that is a matter for negotiation ~ with the employer's business concerns paramount. Holiday entitlements have to be granted within the 12 month period they apply to or may be forfeit.

That said the bloody Olympics are only on for 2 weeks. I expect they are anticipating a lot of preparation time and even more for clearing up the mess afterwards.

If you have volunteered to be an assistant at the actual events then you need to take unpaid leave apparently  noooo:

Look on the bright side ~ they have only said you may not take leave between certain dates and those are in the warmer months .... Take your holidays in colder months and leave us shivering in a British winter whilst you laze on sun soaked beaches. Less chance of the French Air Traffic Controllers going on strike plus hotels and package deals will be cheaper

I know .... It isn't the holiday embargo as such because you no doubt follow the logic that led to it ...... it is the principle that you object to and I have to agree it does seem a bit of a liberty.

What do the unions say?

Yeah ~ Like paying the rent, rates and other bills for their Headquarters

And the salary and expenses for this berk and his cronies.

He only gets paid £127,436. I feel for him being soooooo over-worked.

Given your areas of responsibility is there any real need to extend this embargo to your section Miss D? Other sections of the carncul I can understand, but to threaten anybody with disciplinary action is totaly unecessary

As people will be getting to the games by road as well as other modes of transport, we are already deeply involved with the Olympics and have been more or less since the announcement of the games. Staff have of course been made aware of the games, and that it is PREFERRED that staff don't take leave in the weeks leading up to, throughout, and after the games as we have to ensure that routes are kept flowing

The whole thing is going OTT, as of 01.01.11 if we want to close a lane on the grandly named Olympic Route Network (ORN) with have to get permission off the Olympic Developement Authority (ODA) to do it. FFS, the games are still nearly two years away. Yet another layer of officialdom no doubt eager to exercise their new found powers, and we all know who's paying for it
