It's not necessarily a logical conclusion though   noooo:

It may make the son more determined never to be anything like his father , if he has suffered and seen his mother suffering years of this embarrassment and upset.

Does make me wonder what action he has taken though since he found out his dad had tried to hit on his girlfriend ?

They fought apparently. Boy thumped his father ..... that was when the ban on ever seeing the THW was imposed but the lad still thinks he can handle the situation.

I've told him lies will do no good. He has to bring it into the open and sort it once and for all but he is not ready to cut all ties yet and says he doesn't want to not see his mother again. She meanwhile is sticking with the father "for now" or so she says.

Her parents live nearby and they barred the father from their house years ago ~ makes for a happy Christmas all round as father sits outside in the car whilst mother and son visit granny and granddad. Likewise her brother and family live 2 miles away and the father is not welcome there either since he hit on the "au-pair" (actually a 17 year old daughter of his BiL's Spanish business partner who was here for a year to improve her English). She went home after 3 months of pestering and innuendo from the BF's father.

Sounds like a nightmare  noooo:

At least THW is not basing her decision on where to go to Uni on the proximity to the BF

Hopefully time and distance will sort this out

His Uni is bottom of her list of 5 and then only because the course she wants is not offered everywhere.

Her original plan (last year) was to move with him when he went and finish her A levels there but fortunately good sense and a couple of teachers told her this was stoopid.

Visitors have to be signed in and out ~ other students are not barred from sleeping with who or where they wish. Summat to do wiv Elf n Safety. They check apparently, security patrols stop people and ask to see student ID or so she says.

SWWLTBO tells me that they had a fire evacuation drill at 3am, when she was at Dundee, they found only 35 students in one hall (instead of the expected 90) and 240 in another that was designed for 100!
