Indeed ~ looking at this village with 1997 persons on the electoral roll some 800 are pensioners, of the rest there are 120 that I know of who run their own business from home (Plumbers, electricians etc but most in I.T.) and a few who have separate premises (Garages, Farmers, Publicans and Shop Keepers etc) but are, to all intents and purposes, self employed . Unemployment is very low .... about 25. Of the remainder three quarters are employed either by the NHS (at local hospital etc) and the County Council (this includes a number of teachers) ~ so all employed one way or another by the state. Those left over all work in Chester, Liverpool, Manchester. I confess this household has two electors. I am retired and thus count as a pensioner and SWWLTBO works for two colleges as a Tutor in Further Education.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.
