Heath Vs Wilson
« on: May 27, 2011, 07:22:21 AM »
Did anybody watch this excellent documentary on the BBC...?

It was about the ten years that the two of them battled it out to run the country.

I was quite impressed by the way Heath came over - Wilson came across (quelle surprise) as a man that would say or do anything to gain or cling to power - regardless of the effect it would have on the country.

The thing that amazed me tho was seeing all the old politicians that I remembered from my youth - all recognisable apart from Dennis Healy who looked dreadful - he'll be going on my card for sure...  ;)

The shocker tho (or perhaps I am very naïve)  is that they are all fecking LORDS! All of them, including parliamentary secretaries have been elevated to the other house and are still at the trough all these years later!  Banghead

Missed that I'm afraid but I did know they mostly ended up in the Lords. Heath didn't ~ like Churchill he refused a seat in the Lords, accepted a knighthood, and stayed in the House of Commons.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.
