Why is Gadaffi's death not being called an assassination  or murder but is simply referred to as 'the killing of' ?

I know assassination or murder refers to a 'bad act' and we consider this to be somewhat just  therefore lets not use any derogatory terms  rubschin:

But when are you important enough to be considered to have been assassinated rather than just plain ol murdered ? And do you have to be considered in a favourable light to have it classified as such rather than just being slaughtered ?

I suspect because nobody except perhaps the guy who pulled the trigger actually knows what happened yet..... the rest is just speculation and guesswork.

Anywhooo ~ can you have "Murder" in a shooting war?

And does it really matter? ~ The bugger is dead and not before time.

We could of course wander down to St Paul's and ask the "campers" ~ they seem to think they know everything.

Why is there a need for a different mode of deading someone though  i.e assassination  ?  rubschin:

Just cos you are a likkle bit famous doesn't mean you haven't been murdered the same as anyone else surely ?

Assassinate ~ Noun meaning to murder someone important for religious or political reasons ...
From the Latin assassinat meaning "killed"

Murder ~ Noun meaning the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another ......
From Old English morthor, of Germanic origin; related to Dutch moord and German Mord, from an Indo-European root shared by Sanskrit mará 'death' and Latin mors; reinforced in Middle English by Old French murdre

This really should be one for Dr Nick.  whistle:

Ahh of course, I had forgotten.

Dr Nick Have I told you about my sore back and gouty toe?  No I thought not.....

Well, only the other day I was thinking to myself how lucky I was that I hadn't put me back out, well after I had touched wood like I bent over and blow me I couldn't stand up straight, I had put my back out something bad. It made me hobble I tell you, hobble and me with my gouty toe. It wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for my bunions playing up (does anyone get bunions these days?) red and throbbing as they were it fair made my insides drop out....
