Hi Family & FriendsI am thrilled to announce a wonderful achievement by Louise.Guess who is a Doctor now? Louise had her final Viva on Tuesday afternoon with external examiners and has been informed that she has obtained her degree.Subject to formal confirmation from the University Committee she has been awarded her PhD in English Literature Creative Writing from the University of X.We are all so proud of her and thrilled for this amazing success. It has been three years of intense work a fascinating mind in action and I hasten to add, at times challenging. These are some of the comments made by the external examiners (taken from the notes of her professor who was an observer):A joy to read really impressive by the amount of sheer determined researchStrikingly originalMost beautifully writtenCongratulate enormouslyThe overwhelming part a genuine pleasure to read draws the reader in brilliantlyTremendously impressiveHighly original nature of the project makes a real contribution to the field Woolf etc worked them in a sophisticated wayInterested in way historical research is used and musicVoice and music texture of voices managed wonderfullyMusic & verbal music good connectionThe prose sings beautifullyPlayfulness is very effectiveThe sweep of the thing is huge its very powerfulRich, resonant, powerful One of their first questions by the external examiners was did she have any plans to publish it this is something virtually never heard at such an interview. That gives you some idea of their estimation of the work. Her professor has offered to assist in publishing also must unusual. I think that this says it all about Louise and her amazing achievement. What a clever and creative wife I have.I am sure you will all want to join me in saying well done Louise!
Dear Family & FriendsI sent my email below to you earlier this week in great enthusiasm and excitement to share this great news with you.I did not clear the content or the list with Louise and she has been upset by this.It does not represent what she would wish to communicate to you. It was wrong of me to send this to you and I am sending this email to let you know this.My apologies to Louise & you.
Poor bastard .........
Wouldn't a simple 'well done' have been enough ? Or a dead chuffed ...well proud
Of course you can be proud ....but no one likes loud and proud There is a little known ( to man that is ) concept .....I believe they call it subtly
My ex moaned like hell over the fact I had a a house phone in my bedroom and living room! - that really stumped me! Apparently is was "unnecessary"
