A mate of mine tells me he has left his body for dissection  eeek:

Apparently you get a funeral after about 2 years paid for by the medical skool  rubschin:

Not sure I want to be the butt of jokes from medical students though (did you see what I did there?)

He can't have that that's my one. sad24:

I will probably just be put in the compost bin.  I rather like the idea of a courgette or two growing out of me.

When my dad was ill and on his way out my sis and I were planning his funeral, he wanted a green one I happened to have a friend with a green burial site, as you do, when I was looking into coffins, not literally you understand, I found a company who sold cardboard ones. They came flat packed.  The vision of the postie trying to get it through the letter box stayed with me a while.  Then there was the problem of carting the cardboard coffin and it's sloppy contents over the fields without anything spilling out. shocked003

Prior to that there was the small problem of getting said dead parent from Buxton to Buckinghamshire in a small car and how to explain it all to the police if I was stopped. It was all a bit too much for a person of my delicate sensibilities.

I have always thought that the worst thing about drowning was having to call 'help!' You must look such a fool. It's put me against drowning.

I have already done that ~ made the living will and signed the forms with the Medical School at Keele Uni.
After three years they dispose of the remains according to your wishes (cremation or burial) They also arrange and pay for all transport costs involved and they pay towards a memorial service for the family members who wish to attend.
Where you can leave your body to is determined by where you live ..... because of transport etc .... so if I move I may have to change the medical skool I have left it to.
BTW unless you arrange this before you die they will not/are not allowed to take you.

PS They may refuse to accept a body thus donated if the cause of death is something like a bus running over you or you had some nasty illness. General health is also considered before they accept an application. It seems they actually only want healthy bodies so fvck knows what you are supposed to die from.

rubschin:

Tis true.... You have to make a living will, properly witnessed etc, submit it to them before you die and have it approved or they cannot accept the body after death. Tis the LAW.

They supply the forms to make these arrangements

http://www.hta.gov.uk/bodyorganandtissuedonation/howtodonateyourbody.cfm

PS It is a good idea to clear your wishes with your nearest and dearest before you commit to this as some may have deep objections. I gained the consent of my children and wife to avoid them any unnecessary upset or argument following my demise.

This sounds a bit like a Nick tale, but we once had a hearse catch fire as it was passing us. They quickly whipped the coffin out and came to borrow the phone to call for help (long before mobiles).

It was pouring with rain so they asked if they could put the (full) coffin under cover, it was some way from the house so they wrapped it in a tarpaulin and put it on our flat trailer which I then put in a barn.

They failed to see the humour in my suggestion that they should consider a mobile crematorium service.
