2/6 isn't that bad for Cheltenham. Every horse has very good form and has a chance so finding the winner is is not easy. You'll just as likely to find the winner going by a name you like or a horse that you like the look of.
Having said that I once went to Cheltenham many years ago on a Corporate junket. We had a jockey come in to "mark our card" I collected a couple of quid from each person at the table and put it on a "placepot" accumulator. It was a great moment at the end when I counted out a couple of hundred pounds to each of us.
Well we are unlikely to get a jockey coming in and marking our cards
However we do have an advance party that are attending for the next couple of days and then the whole gang on Friday.
We also do a placepot accumluator within the group so if there are about 12 of us we all bung in about 20 or 30 quid and then mark our cards accordingly. We keep those and end of racing score the points according to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and the pot is divided between the gold, silver and bronze award winners.
We even have our own little piss taking presentation ceremony
