Once again I am in dispute with the former host of the virtual pub!

But I have discovered something which I think is quite astonishing...

When I started using Easyspace as an ISP I obviously had to use a credit card to pay for my purchases. I actually choose to use a debit card.
They kept the card details on-line so that if I wanted to purchase anything else or upgrade the pub, etc, I simply clicked 'Buy' and they took the money off the debit card.
Last November, which changing bank accounts around and generally doing some housework, the debit card was cancelled and a new card with a new number issued.
At the end of July the card (if it had still existed which it doesn't) expired.
Easyspace wrote to me (by e-mail) at the end of June and mid July informing me that my card would expire soon and I would be unable to renew my services if I didn't add a new card.
Yesterday they took £73 off the card for a service I no longer require.
I wrote to complain stating that the card had expired and I had formally (in writing) cancelled the service they were trying to charge me for.
Their response was essentially 'bollocks'. In fact, I'll quote: -
Even though your card had expired , if it is till linked to the same bank account , we still receive payment . As our agreement was to take the funds from that account , not from that card .
I was amazed!

I called the bank (Barclays) but they say there is nothing they can do. Apparently, it is quite 'normal' and they can keep taking money from the account until you formally tell the bank that you do not want them to any longer.
Be warned!
