What defines a good actor/actress

I can't remember how we got talking about it but someone on Friday suggested that Ray Winstone was a good actor.

Now I have seen a few of his films but to me he always plays the same role in some guise or the other ...even in The Sweeney when he was supposed to be the good guy for once he wasn't.

These roles also don't seem too departed from his own persona when he does interviews etc.

So to me he gets paid for being himself ....not a great stretch of acting talent required  rubschin:

Not a film actor, but David Jason has played a number of characters in differing programmes over the years, and you never think, oh it's Delboy, Jack Frost, Pop Larkin etc

Exactly he is not typecast into one role only.

Hugh Grant = slightly goofy English gentleman  ALWAYS  ::)

Speaking of which, David McCallum has to be the most wooden actor I have ever seen (I'm sure there are many others that never reached his dizzy heights though)
