Gospel singers.
« on: August 12, 2007, 09:05:21 PM »
I was bored this evening, doing a bit of channel hopping and came across 'Songs of Praise' on BBC1.
I had to stop for a few moments and watch this unique breed of..... human??? eeek: It was oh so embarasing to watch, but I was glued to the spectacle. eeek:

Are they all on drugs?
They all look the bloody same too....sort of lentily and tree huggy sandaly types with ultra conservative dress wear, with huge grinny smiley oh so bloody happy beaming faces, clapping in unison, singing at the top of their voices. eeek:
WTF are they all about ey? noooo:

Has life simply passed me by, and I've missed out on something, or am I just a normal cynical miserable old grumpy narky get? rubschin:

Perhaps both?

I think the Songs of Praise effect is just a Middle-England variant of chavs who want to be on the telly.

It came to our church about 20 years ago (I did not attend) and all the old slappers and Mrs Ploppy types turned up in modest tweed, little make-up and a hat.
Their unfortunate spouses were washed, shaved and shoven in suits while the pub almost went bust.

Mrs DS (#2) thought I might over-react and hid the key to the padlock on the muck-spreader. evil:
I mostly despair

Neat weeks 'Songs of Praise' will be coming from a muddy field at the end of runway 2, Heathrow. ::)
I fully expect the participants to be the same ones as this weeks. whistle:

I?m completely anti-godstuff?

Given that about ?% of the population actually attends church why is it forced on us every bloody Sunday ? can?t switch on Radio 4 without some bloody god-freak creeping up on you and what is it with bloody ?thought for the day? during the week on Radio 4?  cussing:

Oh, and back to the OP I?m sure they?re all bussed-in from around the country ? the average church having about three people in it on a ?normal? Sunday and two of those only popped-in to use the toilets?  evil:

Perhaps you'd be less bored if you went to church?

The trouble is that too few people know where the off button is. whistle:

I hardly ever watch it, only i must say, Sunday nights are one of the better nights on the box currently.

I'd only go to church if I was suffering from terminal insomnia.

I tried, at about half midnight last night, from our roof.

Saw 2 in 10 minutes  cry:  That's another problem about living in t' smoke - no 'Sky at Night'. Could just about make out Ursa Major.

And lucky enough to be a major British Base directly within range of Iranian missiles when they decide to flex their nuclear muscles. Every silver lining has a f*cking great black cloud surrounding it.

Something I've noticed about Gospel on the few times I've seen it is that its a happy upbeat take on christianity that originated from people who were carted off from their homes as part of the slave trade. Regular christianity however had all the money and if you listen to them sing they usually make Marvin* look like a happy Jolly Soul.

*Look up Douglas Adams if that makes no sense
The universe is run by the complex interweaving of three elements. Energy, matter, and enlightened self-interest.

It's Christian Lite. Like regular religion without the guilt  ;)

There's a church down the road where they hold a service on a Sunday; no word of a lie it could be the James Brown Gospel thang from The Blues Brothers going on in there  lol:
