Obviously big problems yesterday... ::)

After the site went down I contacted support and was told that there had been a major issue but it was now resolved...

I assured them that it was not resolved and got the problem escalated.

After six hours back and fourth I left them to it and went to bed (yes, at 8pm as usual ::)).

Anyhooo...

The site came live again at 03:48 my time.

I've checked the support logs and the bottom line is this: -

Hey Barman,

After thorough investigation with top-tier engineers on your website's issue, we found a reason to why your forum will not pull up properly.

At first, we thought the issue originated by your database overclocking the query limit, but after further research we found your database user to be the source of the problem. The error lies with the max user connections limit.
Somewhere in the script is keeping 10 or more concurrent connections of the database user open, making that go over the limit and therefore timeout.
Most codes close out connections automatically, but it looks like that is not that case with your code. The other possibility is that the site could just be getting an overwhelming amount of traffic.

Ultimately, this just looks like it's hitting limits with our system as it seems to require a lot more than what our shared servers allow.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news. I will do another check to be 100% sure- but at this point it does seem like it will not be something that we can directly help with.

Kindest Regards,
Kelsey S.
Executive Response Manager

I have responded saying that is very unhelpful and we need to work together to identify and resolve the issue or we will have to move on.

I'll keep you posted.

Fuse put back in there as well.  But seems SMF forums are prone to this getting overloaded issue

It is not a porn site, they are very serious over there. I got accused of being anti catholicyesterday  cos I posted that Paddington Bear for pope idea.  And then there was that row about Nazis in the EU and the one about recycling.

So bad news all, I prefer it here.
Well, whatever, nevermind

I think our problem is with our host rather than the SMF software...

I've been chasing it down here...
