With fewer than 1 left in the wild, the BM is the world's most endangered species.
In the Cypriot Far-West - forming the border with Paphos- runs the road to Pissouri. Part of this remote region is known as Barman's Territory, which translates as Land of the Buckethead.
It is the home of the last remaining galvanized buckets. But for how much longer?
Its ancient range is now just a fraction of its former size – split by a burgeoning human population and slow internet connectivity.
Lack of electricity has destroyed large gatherings and social events, leaving the Buckethead with nowhere to hunt and feed.
The Barman is also a lucrative prospect for poachers. Its shiney bucket is highly prized and can fetch up to 10 wind turbines – a lot of energy for struggling local communities.
With so few left it would be easy to give up and let the Barman go. But we are already acting to save them.
