The frustration of contrariness
« on: February 11, 2013, 09:48:02 PM »
Right, Mrs Nick would NEVER accept that I might be right about ANYTHING. ANYTHING AT ALL.

For the last 2 years she has had redundancy hanging over her head. I advised her to get legal advice via the union or anyone. Because I suggested this she refused. It was ever thus  noooo:

I realise in retrospect that if I had said "steer clear of lawyers" she would have been down to Sue, Grabbit and Runn like a shot, but no.

SHe now tells me that she has been made redundant as of July 31st. Bad terms and HR will not talk to her.Nor will her boss. SHe is 58 and a half years old.

I suggested she gets some legal advice. I got shouted at  noooo:

Would legal advice really have made any difference?

Much sympathy to Mrs N, redundancy is a bastard experience.
Well, whatever, nevermind

Is there a third party (mutual friend or somesuch) that you could pass advice through?

Sorry I'm sure. Evidence led me to believe you were exempted from the usual Commons rules.

Please use [serious] [/serious] for clarity, even in here.

With reference to your query, anything you suggest will be treated with contempt and dismissed (much as it is in here).

You need a neutral third party, trusted by Mrs Nick, to make her see sense.

It seems unlikely, but does she have a girly best friend who would allow you close enough to explain the problem?

1) Don't tell her you've sold your flat.
2) Remember that advice is meant to be given but seldom taken.
3) Count yourself well out of it all ~ tell her you too have financial problems and cannot help.
4) Be pleased that you can now say "I told you so" ~ a small but immensely satisfying inner glow will result.
5) Withdraw from the whole thing & let her get on with it ..... A muttered "Yeah ~ Life can be a bitch" is not inappropriate.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.
